          Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction

This weekend sees a crucial top of the table clash between Arsenal and Liverpool, which is tough to call on paper. Arsenal have only lost once in their previous nine home fixtures in the Premier League, with their last defeat coming late last season. Liverpool have won their last eight games in all competitions, with the Reds winning seven of their eight league fixtures this season.

Liverpool are unbeaten away from home so far, with four wins from four in the Premier League. In this fixture, Arsenal are without a clean sheet in their last eight and both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings between the pair. As a result, we are backing the points to be shared with nothing to split them – Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

Arsenal host Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, in what will be a crucial battle between two sides at the top of the table.

          Date: 27/10/24

          Kick-off time: 16:30

          Venue: Emirates Stadium

Liverpool currently occupy top spot in the Premier League, in what has been a dream start to life for Jurgen Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot. They have lost just once in all competitions this season, coming against Nottingham Forest at home in mid-September. The Reds lead second place Man City by a point, and a victory this weekend would maintain and potentially strengthen their position in first.

Not far behind in third is their hosts Arsenal. Before last weekend, the Gunners were one of two remaining unbeaten sides alongside City. However, a red card to William Saliba allowed Bournemouth to come away with a 2-0 victory and inflict their first away defeat of 2024. It had been a strong start to the season for Arsenal but recent performances and injuries have cast doubt over their title credentials. A win against Liverpool will give them some much-needed momentum and put them right back in the mix, but defeat could leave them with a steep mountain to climb despite it still being early.

Saliba will not be playing due to suspension and this is a huge blow for Mikel Arteta. He has been the main man at the back and a big reason why Arsenal are so tough to break down. Without him, it gives Liverpool the edge going forward with the multiple dangerous threats they possess. Mo Salah has enjoyed a hot start, scoring five. Luis Diaz is right there with him, having also netted five times.

Arteta has also been without Bukayo Saka in the last two games, and the effect his absence has on their attack has been clear. The winger has scored two and assisted seven in seven league games. They will hope to have him back on Sunday and it is important they do if they want to come away with three points. Liverpool have the best defence in the league this season with only three goals conceded. Only one of these goals have been allowed away from home.

It has been Arsenal who have edged the head-to-head in recent seasons. In their last four Premier League meetings, Liverpool are winless with two draws and two losses. The first game between the pair last season ended 1-1 at Anfield, before Arsenal were 3-1 winners at home in the reverse fixture. Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard were the goalscorers, whilst Gabiel netted an own goal to equalise on the stroke of half-time for Liverpool.

          Team News

          Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has a few injury concerns to contend with. Riccardo Calafiori was substituted with a knee injury in midweek, and his chances of playing this weekend seem slim. The Gunners could be handed a boost with the return of Bukayo Saka, but Martin Odegaard remains out. The biggest absentee will be William Saliba, who misses his first game of the season through suspension following his red card last weekend.

          Liverpool

Goalkeeper Alisson is still out and is not expected to return until late next month. Harvey Elliott is slated for an earlier return, though it will not come this weekend. Diogo Jota was substituted last weekend with a chest injury, and his availability is in doubt. Expect Luis Diaz to get a start should he be out.

          Form Guide

          Arsenal:

In their last five games, Arsenal have won four and lost one. The Gunners had enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season until their most recent league game against Bournemouth. They lost 2-0 away from home with goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert. William Saliba had earlier been sent off. This preceded a European home tie against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. They were narrow 1-0 winners with an own goal providing the decisive moment.

This run started with a 4-2 win over Leicester. After taking a 2-0 lead, a brace from James Justin levelled it up at 2-2. An own goal clinched the win deep into stoppage time before Kai Havertz added a fourth to put it to bed.

A return to Champions League action followed and they picked up their first win against PSG. They won 2-0 with goals from Havertz and Bukayo Saka. Before the international break Arsenal won 3-1 against Southampton. The Saints took a shock lead, but a quick response from Havertz levelled the score. Gabriel Martinelli and Saka secured the three points.

          Liverpool:

In their last five games, Liverpool have been perfect, winning all five. It has been a very strong start to the Premier League season for the Reds which has continued in this recent stretch. The first game was a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Bournemouth. Luis Diaz scored a quick-fire brace before Darwin Nunez added a third.

Liverpool then faced a trip to Wolves. They were 2-1 winners, with Ibrahima Konate and Mo Salah scoring either side of a Rayan Ait-Nouri equaliser. Bologna visited Anfield for their second Champions League game. Liverpool made it two wins from two thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Salah. A return to the Premier League saw them record a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Diogo Jota scored the winner after nine minutes.

The first game back from the international break was a home game against Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson had cancelled out a Salah penalty, but Curtis Jones scored the winner almost immediately after. Their most recent game was a European away tie at RB Leipzig. They won 1-0, with Darwin Nunez netting the winning goal.
