Aston Villa vs Wolves Prediction & Betting Tips

Villa Park hosts Aston Villa and Wolves this Saturday in the Premier League and the West Midlands derby. Aston Villa will be looking to bridge a bigger gap between themselves and Tottenham whereas Wolves look to venture further into the top half of the table.

            Date: 30/03/2024

            Kick off time: 17:30

            Location: Villa Park

The crowded mid table means that Wolves could move up as far as seventh with a win over Aston Villa, whereas a win for Villa would help their pursuit of Champions League over Tottenham a bit easier.

Aston Villa currently sit fourth in the Premier League after 29 games. Villa have 17 wins, five draws and seven losses, leaving them on 56 points, seven points behind Man City but just three points above Tottenham.

Villa have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 60 goals in 29 games giving them an average of 2.07 goals a game. Aston Villa have been a little less consistent defensively, conceding 42 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Wolves sit just below Aston Villa in ninth in the Premier League. In 28 games, Wolves have 12 wins, five draws and 11 losses which leaves them on 41 points, just six points from sixth-place Manchester United.

In front of goal this season Wolves have been a little underwhelming. In 28 games, Wolves have scored 42 goals which gives them an average of 1.50 goals a game. At the other end of the pitch, Wolves have been better, conceding 44 goals and keeping five clean sheets.
Aston Villa and Wolves have met 135 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1886 FA Cup. Villa have the better record in the fixture with 56 wins in comparison to Wolves’ 44 wins, the other 35 games ending in a draw.

Wolves haven’t beaten Aston Villa since 2020, with the last five games in the fixture seeing three Villa wins and two draws. However, this fixture usually sees both teams on the scoresheet, with four of the last five meetings having both teams on the scoresheet.

The last time out for Villa was against West Ham. Michail Antonio gave The Hammers the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. Nicolo Zaniolo equalised for Villa in the second half and Villa survived a late scare as West Ham’s goal was ruled out as the game finished in a 1 - 1 draw.

In the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, Wolves hosted fellow Premier League side Brighton. Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the game in the second minute as Wolves kept Brighton out with just 28% of the possession for the 1 - 0 win.

Back in the Premier League, however, Newcastle dealt Wolves a blow. Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon both scored in the first half to give The Magpies the lead. Tino Livramento added another in the 92nd minute to give Newcastle the 3 - 0 win.

Wolves bounced back against Fulham. A goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri and an own goal from Tom Cairney gave Wolves the 2 - 0 lead with 15 minutes to go. Alex Iwobi scored in the 98th minute but Wolves held on for the 2 - 1 win.

The FA Cup Quarter Finals saw Wolves host Championship Coventry. Ellis Simms gave Coventry the lead early in the second half but goals from Ai-Nouri and Hugo Bueno gave Wolves the 2 - 1 lead with two minutes to go. However, a 97th minute goal from Simms and a 100th minute goal from Haji Wright gave Coventry the 3 - 2 win.
