The relegation battle is heating up, with Everton within touching distance of safety, needing a win to distance themselves from the drop zone. Brighton, on the other hand, need a win to get themselves back in the fold for European football.

Brighton currently sit seventh in the Premier League after 25 games. The Seagulls have ten wins, eight draws and seven losses, leaving them on 38 points, nine points from Tottenham in fifth place.

The Seagulls have scored 48 goals in 25 games, giving them an average of 1.92 goals a game. Brighton have been just as consistent at the other end of the pitch, conceding 40 goals but keeping just three clean sheets.

Everton, on the other hand, currently sit 17th in the Premier League. In 25 games, The Toffees have eight wins, six draws and 11 losses which leaves them on 20 points, seven points above Burnley and Sheffield United and just one point from safety.

The Toffees have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring 27 goals in 25 games, giving them an average of just 1.08 goals a game. Defensively, Everton have been on a different level. In 25 games, The Toffees have conceded only 33 goals and have kept eight clean sheets.

Brighton and Everton have only met 24 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1913. Everton have the better record in the fixture with 11 wins in comparison to Brighton’s six wins, the other seven games ending in a draw.

The last five games in this fixture both sides have picked up two wins with the last game ending in a draw. This fixture has been a hotbed for goals recently, with three of the five games having at least five goals, 3 - 2 and 4 - 1 wins for Brighton and a 5 - 1 win for Everton.

        Form Guide (Last Five Games)

In their last five games in all competitions, Brighton have three wins and two losses.

Facundo Buonanotte and Pedro gave Brighton an early 2 - 0 lead, but Gustavo Hamer and William Osula drew Sheffield United level before halftime. In the second half, Pedro completed his hat-trick and Danny Welbeck also picked up a goal in the 5 - 2 win for Brighton.

However, the next time out was a shock loss to Luton Town. Elijah Adebayo opened the scoring in the first minute and Chiedozie Ogbene added a second in the third minute. Adebayo secured his hat-trick to give Luton the 4 - 0 win.

Lewis Dunk, Hinshelwood and Buonanotte all scored in the first half to give Brighton the 3 - 0 lead at halftime. Jean-Philippe Mateta did get Crystal Palace on the scoresheet but a goal from Pedro secured the 4 - 1 win.

The trip to Tottenham saw Brighton take the early lead through a Pascal Gross penalty. However, goals from Pape Sarr and Brennan Johnson gave Tottenham the 2 - 1 win.

The last time out for Brighton was against Sheffield United. Following the 13th-minute red card to Mason Holgate, Buonanotte and Welbeck gave Brighton the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. An own goal from Jack Robinson and a brace from Adingra in the second half gave Brighton the 5 - 0 win over Sheffield United.

In their last six games in all competitions, Everton have one win, three draws and two losses.

In the Third Round FA Cup Replays, Everton took on Crystal Palace. Gomes scored the only goal of the game just minutes before the halftime whistle to give Everton the 1 - 0 win and the spot in the next round.

However, the Fourth Round saw Everton host Luton Town. An own goal from Vitaliy Mykolenko gave Luton the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. Jack Harrison equalised for Everton just ten minutes into the second half, but a 96th-minute goal from Cauley Woodrow gave Luton the 2 - 1 win.

Back in the Premier League, Everton faced Fulham. Fulham had 25 shots and 70% of the possession but couldn’t find a goal whereas Everton had just four shots on target in 30% of the possession in the 0 - 0 draw.

It was another draw for Everton, this time against Tottenham. Richarlison grabbed a brace against his old club to give Spurs the 2 - 1 lead at halftime, Harrison managing to bag a goal before the whistle. In the 94th minute, Jarrad Branthwaite grabbed a goal to force the 2 - 2 draw.

Erling Haaland scored both goals in the second half to give Manchester City the 2 - 0 win, with Everton only managing one shot on target with 27% of the possession.

Everton managed to earn a point against Crystal Palace on Monday night thanks to a late goal from Amadou Onana after Jordan Ayew had given the Eagles a 66th-minute lead.
