          Brighton vs Ipswich Prediction

Ipswich have had a tough start to life back in the Premier League, and we expect their winless start to continue against an in-form Brighton side. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last eight in all competitions, whilst Ipswich have not kept a clean sheet in any of their four games.

The hosts tend to get off to strong starts, scoring the first goal in seven of their last eight games. They have picked up seven points from nine, including a late 2-1 win over Man United. They have also won the first half in four of their last five. This fixture should provide goals, with the Over 2.5 market landing in four of the last five games for Brighton – Brighton 3-0 Ipswich

Brighton vs Ipswich: Preview & Prediction

Ipswich travel to Brighton to take on a side who have made a flying start to the campaign and are looking to maintain their position towards the top of the Premier League.

          Date: 14/09/24

          Kick-off time: 15:00

          Venue: Amex Stadium

It has been an excellent start to the season for Brighton and new manager Fabian Hurzeler. At 31 years old, the German is the youngest Premier League manager, but he has settled into life on the south coast very nicely. With two wins from three and a 1-1 draw away at Arsenal, the Seagulls sit in third place, two points behind Man City and Liverpool.

The departure of Roberto De Zerbi led to many questions on how Brighton’s play would change, but they have played good football, resulting in six goals. They have also been strong at the back, conceding just twice. Their results include a 2-1 win over Man United at the Amex, in which Joao Pedro scored the winner in stoppage time. The Brazilian has scored twice this season, continuing from a team-leading nine-goal campaign last year. Hurzeler has several attacking options, with Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra also finding the back of the net.

Facing the tough task of keeping them out is an Ipswich side who have been dealt a tough hand this season. They were welcomed back to the top flight with a home game against Liverpool and a trip to champions Man City. A third game against Fulham resulted in their first point of the season. The Tractor Boys made numerous signings to bolster their attack, including Liam Delap and Sammie Szmodics, who scored 27 goals in the Championship last year. Both players have already got off the mark.

Although they faced elite opposition in Liverpool and City, Ipswich have struggled defensively. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup by AFC Wimbledon on penalties after a 2-2 draw, before conceding another against Fulham. They will have their work cut out against a side who have shown strengths at both ends of the pitch. It is all about survival for the visitors, and a point in this game would allow them to keep pace with those above them.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Brighton and Ipswich in the Premier League. Since 2012, the pair have faced off 11 times, all in the Championship. During this stretch, they won four games apiece with three draws. However, they have not met since the 16-17 season, and both games ended in a draw. The first at Portman Road ended goalless before a 1-1 draw at the Amex later in the campaign. Ipswich won the previous meeting before that 1-0 away from home.

          Form Guide

          Brighton:

In their last five games, Brighton have won four and drawn one. It was a perfect start to the season for the Seagulls as they beat Everton 3-0 away from home. Kaoru Mitoma put them ahead after 25 minutes before Danny Welbeck doubled their advantage shortly into the second half. Ashley Young was sent off for the hosts, and Brighton added a third through Simon Adingra.

They followed this with a late 2-1 home win against Man United. Welbeck put them ahead against his former side from close range, though Amad Diallo netted an equaliser. United thought they took the lead but were denied by an offside on the line before Joao Pedro took advantage of some dreadful marking to net the winner in the 95th minute.

Attention shifted to the EFL Cup, in which they comfortably advanced to the third round with a 4-0 win over Crawley. Last time out, they picked up an impressive 1-1 draw at Arsenal, though played the majority of the second half against 10 men after Declan Rice’s controversial red card. The first game of this stretch and final friendly was a 4-0 win over Villarreal. Welbeck netted a brace, whilst Pedro and Yankuba Minteh were also on the scoresheet.

          Ipswich:

In their last five games, Ipswich have won one, drawn two and lost two. It had been a tough start to the Premier League season as they faced both Liverpool and Manchester City in their first two. They lost both, falling 2-0 at home to Liverpool, before losing 4-1 at City. They took a shock lead at the Etihad through Sammie Szmodics, but a quick-fire Erling Haaland double and Kevin De Bruyne strike soon turned it around. Haaland added his third late on to complete the scoring.

They were knocked out of the EFL Cup at the first hurdle as they were upset by AFC Wimbledon on penalties. The game ended 2-2 with both sides surrendering a lead. Ipswich picked up their first point of the league campaign at home to Fulham. It was a 1-1 draw, in which Liam Delap gave them the lead. It would not last long, though, as Adama Traore scored the equaliser. This run started with their final pre-season friendly, a 1-0 win over Nice.
