          Brighton vs Man City Prediction

Despite their recent form across all competitions, we are backing Manchester City to return to winning ways against Brighton. They still have a favourable record over the Seagulls, as they are unbeaten in their previous six against their opponents. The hosts are without a clean sheet in their previous 16 meetings with City.

The visitors have scored first in the last ten meetings between the pair and have been first-half winners in eight of the least ten. Expect goals in this fixture, as both teams have scored in five of the previous seven meetings and there have been over 2.5 goals in six of the least seven – Brighton 2-3 Man City

Brighton vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

Brighton welcome Manchester City to the Amex Stadium in the Premier League, with the visitors looking to get back on track after a surprising recent downturn in form.

          Date: 09/11/24

          Kick-off time: 17:30

          Venue: Amex Stadium

It had been a superb start to the season for Manchester City, as they were the last unbeaten team standing. That was until last weekend, however, when they suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth. It leaves them in second place, trailing Liverpool by two points. This was sandwiched between losses in both the EFL Cup and Champions League. As a result, they have now lost three games in a row, something that has not happened for six years.

Trying to extend that streak to four is a Brighton side who have impressed so far. Under new management in Fabian Hurzeler, they sit in eighth place after 10 games. They are just two points adrift of the top four with two defeats on the season. These losses came away at Chelsea and Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side face a tough task to return to winning ways away from home. They come up against a side who have yet to taste defeat at the Amex. However, the Seagulls have recorded three draws in their own stadium. City have kept two clean sheets in the league this season and will be without center back pairing Ruben Dias and John Stones for this game. The hosts have several attacking threats to exploit a weakened defence. Danny Welbeck has enjoyed an excellent campaign with six goals and Hurzeler could be boosted with the return of Joao Pedro.

Goals could be a feature in this one with the great talent City have on display as well. Erling Haaland got back on the scoresheet last weekend against Southampton after a three-game goal drought, which could be an ominous sign for the Seagulls. The potential return of Kevin De Bruyne should increase their opportunities further.

As expected, Man City have been the dominant side in this fixture. Since Brighton’s promotion to the top flight in 2017, City have lost just one of 14 Premier League meetings. This came in 2021 as Brighton won 3-2 at the Amex. Last season, City did the double over their opponents. At home they were 2-1 winners before putting four past the Seagulls with no reply in the reverse fixture. Phil Foden scored a brace adding to strikes from De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez.

          Team News

          Brighton

Adam Webster and James Milner remain out but are expected back by the end of this month. Brighton should be boosted by the returns of multiple players. Joao Pedro, Matt O’Riley, Yankuba Minteh and Lewis Dunk could all be in contention to play.

          Man City

Ruben Dias, John Stones and Jack Grealish are all expected to remain out until after the international break. Pep Guardiola could recall Kevin De Bruyne to the starting lineup after returning to the bench last weekend.

          Form Guide

          Brighton:

In their last five games, Brighton have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a mixed stretch for the Seagulls in recent weeks, with the latest results a pair of defeats against Liverpool in the EFL Cup and Premier League. They were eliminated in the fourth round of the Cup after a 3-2 loss. Liverpool took a 2-0 lead before the Seagulls pulled one back, then the two teams exchanged goals once more.

The Premier League fixture saw them defeated 2-1 at Anfield. Ferdi Kadıoğlu opened the scoring for Brighton, but two goals in as many minutes in the second half turned the game on its head. This run started with an excellent comeback win at home to Tottenham. Spurs went 2-0 ahead, but second half goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck earned three points for the hosts.

Another impressive victory came away at Newcastle. They were 1-0 winners as Welbeck’s 35th minute strike proved decisive. At the weekend, Brighton squandered a two-goal lead to drop points against Wolves. Welbeck continued his good form with the opener, before Evan Ferguson doubled the lead late on. However, Wolves pulled one back with two minutes to go, before Matheus Cunha equalised in stoppage time.

          Man City:

In their last five games, Man City have won two and lost three. It had been an excellent start to the season for the Premier League champions but their unbeaten run ended in their most recent league game. This came away at Bournemouth in a shock 2-1 defeat. Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson put the hosts 2-0 up either side of the break before a late Josko Gvardiol consolation.

It meant it was two losses in a row in all competitions after they were eliminated from the EFL Cup by Tottenham. Spurs were 2-1 winners with Matheus Nunes’ goal not enough to spark a comeback after City fell behind. This followed a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton in the league. Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game.

This run started with a European tie at home to Sparta Praha in the Champions League. They were dominant 5-0 winners with goals from Phil Foden, Haaland (x2), Stones and Matheus Nunes. Last time out, they faced Sporting Lisbon. They lost 4-1 despite taking an early lead through Foden. Victor Gyokeres scored a hat-trick.
