Chelsea vs Brentford Prediction

Chelsea have been in very strong form of late, and we expect this to continue at home to Brentford. Since the opening-day defeat to Manchester City, the Blues have remained unbeaten in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge after their recent 3-0 win over Aston Villa at the start of the month. Chelsea’s recent unbeaten record in the league is reflective of their league position, as they have won five of their last eight games since the 2-1 loss to Liverpool in October, which has them in second place.

Brentford have one of the worst away records in the Premier League, with one draw and six losses in seven games. They have only five goals scored and 14 conceded. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the previous five involving Chelsea and five of the last six involving Brentford – Chelsea 2-1 Brentford

Chelsea vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

Chelsea host Brentford in the Premier League, looking for another win to maintain their strong position towards the top of the table.

Date: 15/12/24

Kick-off time: 19:00

Venue: Stamford Bridge

It has been a fantastic season for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea so far, who have exceeded expectations in second place after 15 games. They have 31 points, four behind leaders Liverpool. However, the Reds have a game in hand. The Blues have won nine games this season and are two points clear of third place Arsenal, and have a firm grip on a Champions League place, with six points separating themselves from the chasing pack.

Brentford are the opponents looking to end Chelsea’s 12-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Thomas Frank’s side have had a great season of their own, occupying ninth place. With 23 points, they are just four points adrift of Man City in fourth. Most of their success has come at home, where they have recorded all seven of their wins. In fact, Brentford have the league’s best home record, and the second-worst away record having yet to record victory.

Goals should be a feature in this game, as it is between the top two scorers in the league. Chelsea lead the way with 35 scored, closely followed by Brentford’s 31. The hosts have plenty of talent to lean on, with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson combining for 19. Enzo Fernandez has provided a threat of late, scoring in two of the last three league games.

The Bees have the dangerous attacking duo of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, who have scored nine goals each. The pair should be confident in creating opportunities against a defence who have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 league games.

Since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021, these two sides have faced off six times. Surprisingly, Brentford have the superior record, with Chelsea recording just one win against their opponents. This came in the first meeting between the pair at the Gtech Community Stadium in October 2021. The Bees have won three games and drawn two, and are unbeaten at Stamford Bridge. Last season, Chelsea lost 2-0 at home, with goals from Ethan Pinnock and Mbeumo sealing the upset.

Form Guide

Chelsea

In their last five games, Chelsea have been perfect, winning all five. It has been an excellent stretch for the Blues as they have been unstoppable of late both domestically and in Europe. This run started with Conference League action as they travelled to Germany to take on Heidenheim. They were 2-0 winners, with second half goals from Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk sealing the victory.

Attention shifted back to the Premier League, hosting Aston Villa. It was an impressive performance in a 3-0 win. Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer were the goalscorers. A trip to Southampton resulted in another dominant win, this time 5-1. The two teams exchanged goals in the opening 11 minutes, before Chelsea pulled ahead 3-1 with goals from Nkunku and Noni Madueke. A red card for Jack Stephens only made matters worse for the hosts, as Palmer and Jadon Sancho also found themselves on the scoresheet.

Last weekend saw a thrilling 4-3 win at Tottenham. Spurs squandered an early 2-0 lead after Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski put them ahead. Chelsea scored four unanswered through Sancho, Palmer (x2) and Fernandez. Heung-Min Son scored a late consolation. Their most recent game was a 3-1 win at Astana. With a squad mostly made up of academy players, they were victorious thanks to a Marc Guiu brace and further strike from Renato Veiga.

Brentford

In their last five games, Brentford have won three, drawn one and lost one. It has been a very strong stretch for Brentford, though it has highlighted their issues away from home. This run started at the Gtech Community Stadium, where they were 3-2 winners against Bournemouth. The Cherries took the lead twice, before two goals in less than 10 second half minutes from Mikkel Damsgaard and Yoane Wissa secured the three points for the hosts.

A trip to Everton resulted in a goalless draw, though Brentford played over a half with 10 men following a red card for Christian Norgaard. They returned home to face Leicester, and comfortably won 4-1. They fell behind, but responded well with an equaliser from Wissa, before a Kevin Schade hat-trick.

Aston Villa were their next opponents on the road, and their struggles away from home continued with a 3-1 loss. Villa took a 3-0 lead into the break, before Damsgaard pulled one back shortly after the restart. However, this was as good as it got for the Bees. Last time out, they recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Newcastle. Brentford were pegged back twice after taking the lead, but goals from Nathan Collins and Schade earned the win in the second half.
