            Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool will be looking to continue their perfect away start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign when they travel to Selhurst Park, after moving to the top of the Premier League table after a 2-1 win over Wolves at Molineux last weekend. Crystal Palace will welcome the Reds in a period of inconsistent form & results to start their season.

With five wins and one loss in their opening six games in the Premier League, Liverpool are currently on a run of five consecutive wins in all competitions, with Palace yet to register a league win this season. Palace are struggling to find the form of last season which saw them win their last 7 games against the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa & Newcastle. Now, Oliver Glasner will welcome a Liverpool side who have won all four of their away fixtures this season.

While Palace will not make it easy for The Reds, four of the last five meetings between the two sides have produced less than 2.5 goals with Liverpool winning four of those five meetings as well. We believe this time will be no different. - Crystal Palace 0-2 Liverpool

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Preview & Prediction

With a strong start to the season, the Arne Slot era has truly begun at Liverpool, with the Reds looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League against an Oliver Glasner side who will be looking to claim their first victory of the season.

            Date: 05/10/2024

            Kick off: 12:30

            Venue: Selhurst Park

Arne Slot has enjoyed a strong start to life in Merseyside after replacing club legend Jürgen Klopp in the summer. Liverpool sit top of the Premier League after six matches and will look to extend that lead when they head to South London. Slot became the first-ever Liverpool manager to win eight of his first nine matches in charge across all competitions after his win against Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

With five wins and one loss, Liverpool could move four points clear of both Arsenal and Manchester City before they kick off. The Red’s are on a run of five consecutive wins while Palace are yet to register a league win this season. Liverpool hold an impressive record over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park having won four of the last five meetings with four of the last five meetings between the two sides producing less than 2.5 goals as well.

Arne Slot’s side have won the first half of five of their previous seven fixtures and Liverpool have also won all four of their away fixtures this season. Their rock-solid defence has allowed only two goals so far in the Premier League and offensively, Mohamed Salah and in-form Luis Diaz have averaged an xG of 1.52, the second-highest in the division.

The last league win for Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park over Liverpool was in 2014, when Palace recovered a three-goal deficit and will need to replicate such a performance. Palace have found it difficult to both score and defend this season, scoring just five goals and conceding nine. While only managing a single clean sheet and conceding an average of 1.5 goals per 90 minutes, they have a tough task this Saturday. Their attack has also been inconsistent, with xPts of 7.49 suggesting they have been underperforming given they only have three points from 3 draws and 3 loses.

            Where to Watch

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool will be shown live on TNT Sports 1 and the Discovery+ app with live coverage starting at 11am BST.

            Team News

            Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace will be without Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad for the game against Liverpool, with Rob Holding also unlikely to be involved. The Eagles will also be without Chris Richards who missed the trip to Goodison with a hamstring injury garnered at training with Saturday also being too soon for the American. However, the Eagles should have Matheus Franca and Trevoh Chalobah both available on the weekend.

            Liverpool

Federico Chiesa was an unexpected absentee from the squad to face Bologna on Wednesday and will also be a doubt for the trip to Selhurst Park with an unexplained fitness issue. Harvey Elliott will also miss the trip to South London with a foot fracture and isn't expected back until after the international break.

            Form Guide

            Crystal Palace

In the last 5 games, Palace started with a 1-1 draw away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Palace had to suffer with a lot of pressure from the opening minute until the Blue’s eventually got their breakthrough after 25 minutes through a counter attack, in which it was an easy tap-in for Nicolas Jackson. Eberechi Eze later equalised in the second half with a fantastic curled shot just outside the box to share the points.

A home match against newly promoted Leicester City followed, however the Eagles found themselves 1-0 down by half time through Jamie Vardy. Shortly after half-time, Leicester made it two after one minute through Stephy Mavididi. Last season’s top goalscorer for Palace, Jean-Philippe Mateta, managed to rescue a point for Palace scoring a brace, most notably scoring in the 92nd minute.

A midweek third round cup tie against QPR would be the next task for the Eagles, in which they were 2-1 away winners with a goal coming from new signing Eddie Nketiah & talisman Eberechi Eze. That following weekend, Palace would play Manchester United in a goalless draw for a good point at home.

Last weekend, Palace travelled to Merseyside to face struggling Everton, Marc Guehi opened the scoring after 10 minutes till a second half brace from Dwight McNeil would hand the Eagle’s their 3rd defeat of the Premier League season.

            Liverpool

Liverpool’s last 5 unbeaten run started away to AC Milan in the Champions League, the Red’s were 3-1 winners despite going a goal down after just 3 minutes. The centre back pairing of Ibrahima Konate & Virgil Van Dijk would be the unlikely goal contributors to claw back a 2-1 lead before Dominik Szoboszlai would make it 3-1 after 67 minutes.

A home game against Bournemouth would follow, where Liverpool were dominant throughout to win 3-0, a brace from Luis Diaz and a Darwin Nunez goal in the first half would seal the job. A third round EFL cup tie was the next game where Liverpool faced West Ham. West Ham opened the scoring through a Jarell Quansah own goal before Liverpool ran rampant to put 5 past The Hammers and qualify for the next round of the cup.

An away trip to Wolves would be the next challenge for Liverpool, Ibrahima Konate would get his second goal of the season before Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised in the 56th minute. However, The Egyptian King would convert a penalty five minutes later, which would prove to be enough as The Reds hung on to win 1-2.

On Wednesday night, Arne Slot's side would face Bologna for Matchday 2 in the Champions League. The Red’s quickly opened the scoring through Alexis Mac Allister, who met a cross from Salah to tap in after 11 minutes. While Bologna had chances during the game as well as a disallowed goal, Liverpool had that killer instinct in the final third which Bologna were lacking, Salah provided the second for Liverpool after 75 minutes, becoming the first-ever Liverpool player to find the back of the net in five successive home matches in the Champions League.
