Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Prediction

Despite their loss on Monday to West Ham United, we still expect Newcastle United to record a victory over a Crystal Palace side who are struggling to gain momentum this season.

Crystal Palace are winless in their last three games and the Eagles have only won once in the Premier League this season. The hosts have an unfortunate record of having the fourth-worst home record in the Premier League - which would ultimately place the Eagles in 17th, two places higher than their current ranking.

Crystal Palace are without a clean sheet in their previous four, facing a Newcastle United side who rank just inside the top ten on away form. The Magpies have won three of their last four in all competitions, having also won their most recent away fixture against Nottingham Forest.

Less than 2.5 goals have been scored in seven of the previous nine involving Newcastle United and in six of the last seven meetings between the two teams.

Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle United

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Preview & Prediction

Crystal Palace will be desperate for all three points over the weekend as they host a Newcastle United side that are expected to chase down a European place this season.

Date: 30/11/2024
Location: Selhurst Park, London.
Kick-Off: 3 pm

Oliver Glasner could be under increasing pressure if results for Crystal Palace continue in the same vein, and their league standing needs to improve. Glasner’s Palace side were undoubtedly riding the wave of momentum heading into the season, having won six of their previous seven towards the end of the last campaign. This season, however, Crystal Palace are in the bottom three of the Premier League, having only won once in their 12 league games and losing six. The Eagles have only scored 0.83 goals per game whilst conceding 1.47 goals per game on average.

Newcastle United have been showing steady progress under Eddie Howe. Still, there is ample opportunity for the Magpies to secure European football without the pressure of the scheduled midweek European games this season. The visitors are tenth in the Premier League, only one point adrift of the European places. A win for Newcastle United at the weekend could propel Eddie Howe’s side into the top if results elsewhere fall in their favour.

In the two meetings last season, the spoils were shared. The Eagles were the victors at Selhurst Park in a 2-0 win, with Newcastle recording a resounding 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace at St.James’ Park.

Where to watch

The game will not be available on TV in the UK.

Team News

Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton and Eddie Nketiah are all expected to miss out through injury. Daichi Kamada is ruled out through suspension.

Sven Botman remains a long-term absentee for the Magpies. Callum Wilson is also expected to miss out through injury.

Form Guide

The recent history between the two sides suggests that the visitors have a considerable advantage over the Eagles heading into this game. Newcastle United have won three of the last five meetings in all competitions against Crystal Palace, with the Eagles only managing one win in five. Interestingly, the previous five meetings between the two sides have resulted in a clean sheet for the victors of said fixture - if you include games finishing inside the allotted 90 minutes. The last time both teams scored in this fixture was in 2021 when Christian Benteke and Callum Wilson scored second-half goals for either side. Only once in the previous five meetings has this fixture produced Over 2.5 goals.

Oliver Glasner will hope for a change of fortunes in his Crystal Palace side particularly at home, as they struggle towards the bottom of the table. As mentioned earlier, the Eagles have only won once at home (the only win this season), leaving the Eagles with the fourth-worst home record. Only Ipswich Town, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have an inferior record to the Eagles.

Crystal Palace have won twice in their last five games in all competitions. However, the Eagles are winless in their previous three. Since the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace have failed to win in the league, drawing 2-2 twice with Aston Villa and Wolves, respectively. In their most recent game, the Eagles pulled off a tremendous result at Aston Villa by drawing 2-2 with the Villains - thanks to goals from Ismaila Sarr and Justin Devenny.

Newcastle United have a relatively solid yet unremarkable record away from home this season. The Magpies have the ninth-best record in the league on their travels, which, strangely, is only one point worse off than their record at St.James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s side are coming into this game with an away victory under their belt at Nottingham Forest, although they previously suffered a defeat to West Ham United (home).

The visitors are in impressive form regardless, with three wins in their last four over the likes of Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea. Newcastle United have won twice, drawn twice and lost twice in their six away games this season, having averaged 1.33 points per game on their travels this season. The victory over Nottingham Forest marked their first away win in three in all competitions.
