Everton vs Crystal Palace Prediction

This will be a very tight game between two sides who have yet to pick up a win in the Premier League. However, we are backing the hosts to come away with a narrow win as they look to get their season up and running. Home advantage and recent record between the two sides favour Everton over Crystal Palace.

The Toffees are unbeaten in their last seven against their visitors. Four of the previous five meetings between the pair has seen less than 2.5 goals scored, so expect this to be a low scoring affair. Everton have also scored first in four of the previous five games in general, despite recent results seeing them concede the lead. Palace have conceded first in five of their previous seven. We are expecting these trends to continue this weekend – Everton 1-0 Crystal Palace

Everton vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

Everton host Crystal Palace in the Premier League with both teams still searching for a first win of the campaign.

Date: 28/09/24

Kick-off time: 15:00

Venue: Goodison Park

It has been a tough start to the season for both Everton and Crystal Palace, but in particular the hosts. After five games, the Toffees sit in 19th place with just one point. Manager Sean Dyche will be very frustrated with how the games have played out so far, with the side blowing a lead in each of their last three games. The first two fixtures of this stretch saw them squander two 2-0 leads, including one they held in the 87th minute against Bournemouth. Last time out, they drew 1-1 at fellow relegation candidates Leicester after taking the lead.

Similarly, Palace have endured some struggles early in the campaign. Coming into the season with higher expectations under manager Oliver Glasner, they are currently 16th with three points. All three have come from draws. However, two of these points came against Chelsea and Man United. The visitors should see this as a huge opportunity to pick up a first win at a side who is low in confidence.

This fixture may be a low-scoring affair. The two teams have scored only nine goals between them so far. Although, Everton have shown some promise going forward in recent games with at least one goal in each of the last three and five goals overall. Palace, on the other hand, are on four goals, scoring twice in a game once.

Both teams have threats for each defence to contend with, especially the away side despite their lack of results. Last season’s top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta has scored twice whilst star man Eberechi Eze has also found the net once. New signing Eddie Nketiah will be hoping to get off the mark, and he provides another top option for Glasner.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made a good start for the hosts with two goals after scoring seven last season. The club also hope that the eventual return of newest recruit Armando Broja will provide a big boost for the forward line. Unlike a typical Dyche side, they have been poor at the back. No team has conceded more than their 14 goals.

Since 2020, these two sides have met 12 times in all competitions. It is a fixture that has heavily favoured Everton in recent years with six wins and just two defeats in this stretch. Palace have struggled of late as they are winless in the last seven meetings. Their last victory over Everton came in March 2022, when they were 4-0 winners in the FA Cup. Four defeats and three draws followed. Last season, the Toffees won one and drew one. The fixture at Goodison Park took place in February and ended 1-1. Jordan Ayew put the visitors ahead before a late Amadou Onana equaliser. Both players moved elsewhere over the summer.

Team News

Everton

Jarrad Branthwaite has yet to play a game this season and manager Sean Dyche will not rush him back. However, it is thought his return is imminent and could potentially come as soon as this weekend. New signing Armando Broja remains out with injury. Vitalii Mykolenko missed out last week with illness but should be available.

Crystal Palace

New loan signing Trevoh Chalobah has been dealing with an injury so is still waiting to make his debut. However, it could come as soon as this weekend. Matheus Franca is also nearing a return. Cheick Doucoure may return in late October.

Form Guide

Everton

In their last five games, Everton have won one, lost two and drawn two. It has been a disastrous start to the season for the Toffees, and they were denied a first win of the league campaign at Leicester. They drew 1-1 despite taking an early lead through Iliman Ndiaye. Stephy Mavididi scored the equaliser in the second half. It was a disappointing response to getting knocked out of the EFL Cup on penalties by Southampton. The two sides were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, but they fell 6-5 on spot-kicks.

This followed two consecutive 3-2 defeats in which Everton blew 2-0 leads. Firstly against Bournemouth, Michael Keane and Calvert-Lewin put them 2-0 up, a cushion they would hold until the 87th minute. Three goals in nine minutes, including two in stoppage time, completed a dramatic turnaround for the visitors.

It was a similar story at Aston Villa as goals from Dwight McNeil and Calvert-Lewin put them two in front, but the hosts fought back and took the lead through a stunning strike from Jhon Duran. Everton’s only win in this stretch came in the EFL Cup second round, where they beat Doncaster 3-0. McNeil, Ndiaye and Beto were on the scoresheet.

Crystal Palace

In their last five games, Crystal Palace have won two and drawn three. It has been a good recent stretch for Palace, as they are undefeated in their last five. The first game of this run was a 4-0 win in the second round of the EFL Cup against Norwich. Daichi Kamada, Jean-Philippe Mateta (x2) and Ismaila Sarr were on the scoresheet.

Before the international break, they picked up a big 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson had given the hosts the lead, but a stunning finish from Eberechi Eze just after the restart ensured the points were shared. They returned from the break with a home fixture against Leicester City. They were on the verge of defeat down 2-1 in second-half stoppage time. However, Mateta scored his second of the game from the penalty spot to salvage a draw.

Palace advanced to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 2-1 win at QPR. Eddie Nketiah and Eze scored either side of a Sam Field equaliser. Last time out they hosted Manchester United. Despite United’s dominance, the hosts were able to hold them to a goalless draw.
