Fulham’s home match against Nottingham Forest on Monday has the feel of a steady mid-season checkpoint rather than anything more dramatic. It brings together two sides who have spent much of recent campaigns working in the same patch of the table, trying pushing for the European spots while staying well clear of the danger zone.
Fulham (this season) can usually be filed under mid-table: tidy enough on the ball, capable of putting together short runs of results, but prone to the odd flat performance that checks their progress. At Craven Cottage, they tend to look more comfortable, and this is the kind of fixture they will quietly file under “winnable” without taking anything for granted.
Forest, by contrast, have often hovered closer to the bottom third, with spells where points arrive in clusters followed by leaner runs that drag them back towards the relegation picture, but they're showing rapid improvements under Sean Dyche and will hope that their trajectory only points upwards. Their away record has generally been patchier than their form at the City Ground, so a trip to Fulham usually carries a slightly cautious tone.
