Bournemouth come into this game in good form having beaten Tottenham and Wolves in recent days, and we are backing them to make it three wins in a row at Ipswich. Justin Kluivert scored a hat-trick of penalties in their impressive victory at Wolves, breaking a Premier League record in doing so. Ipswich are chasing their first win in three, and are also winless at home this season, which gives them the third-worst home record in the league ahead of Wolves and Southampton.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last five involving Bournemouth and both teams have scored in the last five – Ipswich 1-3 Bournemouth

Ipswich vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

Bournemouth travel to Ipswich looking to build on a big win in midweek as they close in on the European places.

Date: 08/12/24

Kick-off time: 14:00

Venue: Portman Road

It has been a strong season so far for Bournemouth, with their 1-0 victory over Tottenham in midweek moving them into the top half of the table. Andoni Iraiola’s side currently sit in ninth place, overtaking Spurs following their win. Their latest three points adds to other impressive home wins over Man City and Arsenal. Another win this weekend could see them climb into the top six.

At the other end of the table, Ipswich’s aim is to secure another season of Premier League football. After 14 games, they are in 18th place, three points adrift from safety with one victory. However, their only win did come against Tottenham, who they beat 2-1 away from home. Four of their six draws have come at Portman Road, which could give them optimism in picking up at least a point against Bournemouth.

The Cherries have been in good scoring form as of late, netting 10 goals in their last five games. It presents a tough task for an Ipswich defence who have not kept a clean sheet in their last 10 games. However, they have not allowed more than one goal in any of their last five fixtures. The visitors have the attackers to hurt them including club record signing Evanilson who has settled in after a slow start, now with four goals to his name. Justin Kluivert leads the way with five following a recent hat-trick, all coming from the penalty spot. Antoine Semenyo has also emerged as a scoring threat.

Offensively is where Ipswich have mostly struggled, with just 13 goals on the season. Only Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer. Their issues have not extended to youngster Liam Delap, who has enjoyed an excellent campaign with six goals. He tops the scoring charts followed by fellow striker Sammie Szmodics, who has found the back of the net three times. The team have scored just three in their last five games, and will be hoping to get some opportunities at home against a side who have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four games.

These two sides have met just four times this century, all coming in the Championship. All four games ended in draws, with the latest a 1-1 in April 2015. In the 90’s, they faced off on four occasions, with Ipswich winning three and losing one.

Form Guide

Ipswich:

In their last five games, Ipswich have won one, drawn two and lost two. It has been a mixed stretch for Ipswich in which they picked up some surprising results but also dropped points to those around them. This run started with a 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Leicester. Leif Davis gave them the lead shortly into the second half before Kalvin Phillips was sent off. They were unable to hold on as Jordan Ayew scored a stoppage time equaliser.

They responded excellently to this setback with a shock 2-1 win away at Tottenham. Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap put them two ahead in the first half before Rodrigo Bentancur halved the deficit. Following the international break, they picked up another huge point at home to Man United as they drew 1-1. They fell behind very early to a Marcus Rashford goal, but a stunner from Omari Hutchinson ensured the points were shared.

However, Ipswich have fallen to two consecutive losses since. Firstly away at Nottingham Forest, where they lost 1-0. Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot. They lost to Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in their last game at home. Jean-Philippe Mateta netted the winner.

Bournemouth

In their last five games, Bournemouth have won three and lost two. It has been a good stretch for the Cherries in recent weeks. The first game of this run was a stunning victory against Man City at home. They were 2-1 winners against the champions after Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson put them ahead. Josko Gvardiol’s goal came too late for City to mount a comeback.

They then faced a trip to Brentford where they lost 3-2. The visitors took the lead twice through Evanilson and Justin Kluivert, but the Bees fought back both times before scoring the winner with over half an hour to go. Another loss followed as they fell 2-1 at home to Brighton. Joao Pedro put the Seagulls ahead early, before Kaoru Mitoma doubled the lead shortly into the second half. Despite a red card for Carlos Baleba, Bournemouth could not get onto the scoresheet until stoppage time.

A return to winning ways came at Wolves. They were 4-2 winners, going ahead 2-1 after just eight minutes. Kluivert scored a hat-trick, all from the penalty spot. Last time out, Bournemouth hosted Tottenham. They won 1-0, with 19-year-old Dean Huijsen scoring the only goal of the game.
