Liverpool Quadruple Odds For 2022/23

Last campaign, Liverpool were just one point off winning the Premier League title for a second time in three seasons, but for Manchester City’s incredible comeback win against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Could their near-miss make Liverpool more determined to win the Premier League once again? After all, the last time they missed out to Manchester City back in a close battle back in 2018/19, Jurgen Klopp’s men went on to cruise to their first Premier League title with 99 points from 38 matches the following campaign.

Liverpool managed to win their first FA Cup since 2006 last season when they beat Chelsea on penalties in the final following an entertaining 0-0 draw. The Anfield club had a fairly straightforward run to the semi-finals, beating Shrewsbury Town, Cardiff City, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest before defeating Man City 3-2 at Wembley in the semi-finals.

With the strength in depth that Klopp has at his disposal, this has seemingly given him more freedom to field stronger teams in domestic cup competitions, for example, next season he will have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota at his disposal.

Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United are the only team in English football history to complete this unique treble, something that every team in the country aspires to achieve due to the prestige and notoriety of this achievement.

Klopp’s men managed to win the FA Cup last season and fell just short in the Premier League and Champions League, having lost the latter to Real Madrid in Paris as Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the game, whilst Thibaut Courtois put in an inspired performance for Los Blancos.

Similarly to the Premier League title miss they had in 2018/19, Liverpool bounced back the following season and won the Champions League the following year after they lost to Real in 2018.

Manchester City are the only team in England to have completed this domestic treble, doing so in 2018/19 under the management of Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool came within a whisker of doing this last campaign but for City’s dramatic comeback against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium despite ending up beating Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on the last day of the season.

The Reds' close shave will likely make them more determined to be successful in the upcoming campaign, whilst their domestic cup successes will only increase their confidence to go as far in future seasons.

Throughout the majority of last season, the word quadruple was mentioned alongside Liverpool’s name frequently, with the Anfield club looking like they could close in on what would have been arguably the greatest achievement in football history by a club side.

However, they fell agonizingly short, losing out to City by a point in the Premier League title race, despite earning 92 points, whilst also going on to lose the Champions League final just one week later.

To put it into figures, Liverpool were just two games away from winning the quadruple, something that has never been achieved in English football, with United’s treble in 1998/99 still remaining the pinnacle.
