          Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction

Brighton have had a good start to the season, but we are backing Liverpool to continue their own excellent start with a win. The Reds have a tremendous home record in the Premier League stretching back to last season having won eight of their previous ten fixtures at Anfield. This season, Arne Slot’s men have win four from five at home and 11 of their first 12 in all competitions under the new regime.

The Seagulls have proved themselves to be stern opposition under Fabian Hurzeler, sitting in sixth place and unbeaten in their last three league games. Brighton have a moderately average away record, with only two wins from their previous five away games stretching back to last season.

This fixture tends to provide goals and we expect this trend to continue. Four of the previous five meetings between the pair have provided over 2.5 goals, and three of the previous five have seen both teams score – Liverpool 3-1 Brighton

Liverpool vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

Liverpool welcome Brighton to Anfield as they look to continue their excellent start to the season and keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

          Date: 02/11/24

          Kick-off time: 15:00

          Venue: Anfield

The beginning of the Arne Slot era has been an instant success so far for Liverpool, as they currently sit second after nine games, just one point behind leaders City. They have lost just one game so far this season, coming in a 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Reds have won three of their last four games, the exception being a hard-fought 2-2 draw at fellow title challengers Arsenal.

Slot’s next test will be fellow Premier League newcomer Fabian Hurzeler and Brighton. Hurzeler has made a great start to life at Brighton as they occupy sixth place with 16 points. They too have tasted league defeat on just one occasion, coming away at Chelsea. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last three games, though face their toughest test yet to extend it to four.

They will be coming up against the best defence in the league, who have conceded only five goals. The next best tally is City, having allowed nine. Liverpool have, however, failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four games in all competitions, including in a 3-2 win over their weekend opponents in the EFL Cup last time out.

Attacks may be on top in this game, despite the hosts’ strong record. Brighton have scored at least two goals in four of their last five games. A key man during this stretch has been Danny Welbeck, who has scored in three consecutive league games. At the other end, Liverpool will rely on Mo Salah as expected, and he has started the season in dominant fashion recording six goals and five assists.

There has not been much to split these two sides in the head-to-head in recent seasons, with Liverpool winning the last two including the recent EFL Cup tie. The four meetings previous resulted in two Brighton wins and two draws. The last time Brighton won at Anfield was in 2021, when they were 1-0 winners. Last season, the two fixtures ended in a draw and Liverpool win, with goals from Luis Diaz and Salah giving them a 2-1 victory at home.

          Team News

          Liverpool

Goalkeeper Alisson remains out and is not expected to return until late next month. Harvey Elliott and Diogo Jota have similar timetables. Federico Chiesa’s return is unclear. Arne Slot should have a fully fit squad to choose from otherwise.

          Brighton

New signing Matt O’Riley is nearing a return from an ankle injury, though this game is thought to come too soon. Joao Pedro and Lewis Dunk are hopeful to be available for selection this weekend.

          Form Guide

          Liverpool:

In their last five games, Liverpool have won four and drawn one. It has been a very strong start to the Premier League season for the Reds which has continued in this recent stretch. This run began with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Diogo Jota scored the winner after nine minutes.

The first game back after the international break was a home game against Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson had cancelled out a Mo Salah penalty, but Curtis Jones scored the winner almost immediately after. Attention shifted to Champions League action with a European away tie at RB Leipzig. They won 1-0, with Darwin Nunez netting the winning goal. Last weekend, the Reds faced fellow title challengers Arsenal in a huge clash. The Gunners took the lead twice, but were pegged back on both occasions by Virgil van Dijk and Salah.

Their most recent game was an EFL Cup game at Brighton. They were 3-2 winners to advance to the quarter-final. Cody Gakpo scored a brace before Simon Adingra responded. Luis Diaz added some insurance as a late Tariq Lamptey strike was not enough for the hosts.

          Brighton:

In their last five games, Brighton have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a mixed stretch for the Seagulls in recent weeks, with the latest result a 3-2 loss against their weekend opponents in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

This run started with a 4-2 defeat away at Chelsea. They took the lead through Georginio Rutter due to a defensive mistake, but the Blues turned it around with a hat-trick from Cole Palmer. Carlos Baleba pulled one back, but Palmer scored his and Chelsea’s fourth before the break. They responded to this loss with an excellent comeback win at home to Tottenham. Spurs went 2-0 ahead, but second half goals from Yankuba Minteh, Rutter and Danny Welbeck earned three points for the hosts.

Another impressive victory came away at Newcastle. They were 1-0 winners as Welbeck’s 35th minute strike proved decisive. At the weekend, Brighton squandered a two-goal lead to drop points against Wolves. Welbeck continued his good form with the opener, before Evan Ferguson doubled the lead late on. However, Wolves pulled one back with two minutes to go, before Matheus Cunha equalised in stoppage time.
