Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

Anfield welcomes Liverpool and Crystal Palace this Sunday in the Premier League. Liverpool look to extend their lead at the top of the table whereas Crystal Palace look to put even more room between themselves and the relegation zone.

            Date: 14/04/2024

            Kick off time: 14:00

            Location: Anfield

Crystal Palace venture north looking for three points to bring them into the race for the top half of the table, whereas Liverpool need a win and nothing else in the title race against Arsenal and Manchester City.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League after 31 games. The Reds have 21 wins, eight draws and two losses, leaving them on 71 points, equal with Arsenal and one point above Man City.

The Reds have been amongst the goals this season. In 31 games, Liverpool have scored 70 goals which gives them an average of 2.33 goals a game. Liverpool have been just as consistent in defence conceding 28 goals and keeping nine clean sheets.

Crystal Palace, on the other hand, currently sit 14th in the Premier League. In 31 games, The Eagles have seven wins, nine draws and 15 losses which leaves them on 30 points, five points above the relegation zone.

The Eagles, however, have struggled in attack, scoring just 36 goals, an average of 1.16 goals a game. Crystal Palace have been better at the other end of the pitch, conceding 54 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Liverpool and Crystal Palace have met 63 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1938 FA Cup. The Reds have the far better record in the fixture with 36 wins in comparison to Crystal Palace’s 14 wins, the other 13 games ending in a draw.

Crystal Palace hasn’t beaten Liverpool since 2017, however, there have been two draws in the last five games. Also, three games in the last five have seen both teams on the scoresheet.

            Recent Form

In their last six games in all competitions, Liverpool have three wins, one draw and two losses.

The second leg of the Europa League Round 16, Liverpool hosted Sparta Prague. Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo all scored before the 15 minute mark but Veljko Birmancevic got Sparta Prague on the scoresheet before halftime. Another goal from Gakpo and a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai secured the 6 - 1 win for Liverpool.

In the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup, Liverpool took on Manchester United. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United in the tenth minute but goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Salah gave Liverpool the 2 - 1 lead at halftime. Antony made it level late on to send the game to extra time with Harvey Elliott scoring first for Liverpool. However, goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo gave United the 4 - 3 win.

Liverpool bounced back in the Premier League against Brighton. Danny Welbeck found the back of the net after 90 seconds, but goals from Luis Diaz and Salah gave Liverpool the 2 - 1 win.

Despite the own goal from Conor Bradley, Nunez, Mac Allister and Gakpo all scored to secure the 3 - 1 win for Liverpool over a Sheffield United side who had just five shots and 17% of the possession.

The last league outing for Liverpool was another meeting with Manchester United. Diaz gave Liverpool the lead at halftime but goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo gave United the 2 - 1 lead with 20 minutes to go. However, a late penalty from Salah rescued a 2 - 2 draw for Liverpool.

Liverpool suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss at home to Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night as Gianluca Scamacca bagged a brace while Mario Pasalic added a third goal in the 83rd-minute.

In their last five games in all competitions, Crystal Palace have two draws and three losses.

The trip to North London saw Eberechi Eze give The Eagles the lead just before the hour mark. However, with just 15 minutes to go, Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min all scored to give Spurs the 3 - 1 win.

The visit from Luton Town saw Crystal Palace take an early lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 11th minute. However, in the sixth minute of added time, Cauley Woodrow found the back of the net to grab a 1 - 1 draw for Luton.

Crystal Palace took the early lead again, Mateta scoring in the 11th minute again. But again, Palace blew the lead, with Chris Wood grabbing a goal in the second half to give Nottingham Forest the 1 - 1 draw.

The next time out against Bournemouth saw Palace only register three shots with two of them on target. However, Justin Kluivert’s goal in the 79th minute gave Bournemouth the 1 - 0 win.

The most recent outing for Crystal Palace was against Manchester City. Mateta gave Palace the shock lead in the fourth minute but Kevin de Bruyne brought Man City level before halftime. Rico Lewis gave City the lead early in the second half and a goal from Erling Haaland and another goal from de Bruyne gave City the 4 - 2 win, with Odsonne Edouard on the scoresheet late on.
