      Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction

Liverpool’s imperious form and commanding lead at the top of the Premier League makes it difficult to look beyond them in almost any game at the moment, especially at Anfield. Arne Slot’s side are currently on an 18 game unbeaten run with just one defeat in all competitions this season.

The Reds have won all of their last nine games at home in all competitions, scoring at least two in each whilst they have only conceded 3 goals on their own patch in that time.

The two sides met four times last season with Fulham Liverpool’s opponents in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and whilst the Cottagers did pose problems for the Merseyside club, they ended the campaign with three defeats and one draw against the Reds.

Anfield is rarely a happy hunting ground for Fulham. A rare 1-0 win in 2021 lives in the memory for the visiting fans however it is the only time they’ve taken anything from Anfield in their last seven visits. Liverpool 2-0 Fulham

Liverpool vs Fulham Preview and Prediction

Liverpool’s remarkable start to the season took a slight setback last week when a late Fabian Schar goal prevented the Reds from leaving St. James’ Park with all three points. Having the Merseyside derby with Everton postponed at the weekend gave others the chance to close the gap on the league leaders but only Chelsea were able to take full advantage.

With the Blues now their nearest challengers and not playing until Sunday, Liverpool will be keen to to extend their lead once more to make sure the pressure is on the chasing pack.

The Reds’ form on paper is good but there have been some minor signs of vulnerability of late, particularly in away games. Trips to Southampton, Newcastle and the one to Girona in midweek didn’t please Arne Slot in the way other matches have with a lack of true control making for difficult games in all three. The end to end nature of some of those matches were more reminiscent of the early Jurgen Klopp days and less of what the new manager wants from his team. With the Reds showing some vulnerability on the counter attack, that could suit Fulham who thrive with players like Alex Iwobi and Adama Traore breaking down the wings.

Wedged between those away games were victories at home to Manchester City and Real Madrid where the Reds were excellent and with nine wins on the bounce at Anfield, this is very much still a daunting task for visitors Fulham.

The Cottagers will take confidence from the fact they have taken points off some of the big boys this season. Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle have all failed to beat Silva’s side so far this campaign whilst they only narrowly lost to Champions Manchester City, 3-2, back in October.

Antonee Robinson earned credit for his general dealings with Bukayo Saka last weekend and the Fulham left-back did produce some impressive displays against Liverpool last season. Whether he can handle an in form Mohamed Salah is another question though with the Egyptian scoring and/or assisting in nine of his last 10 starts. It has begged questions as to whether the Reds are overeliant on their star man though so nullifying him could be the key. That’s easier said than done, however.

The absence of Fulham’s two first choice centre-backs for this game in Calvin Bassey and Joachim Andersen also makes life trickier for the visitors so it’s hard to see beyond a home victory.

      Where to Watch

The game is not available to watch in the UK.

      Team News

      Liverpool

Liverpool welcomed back Number One goalkeeper Alisson in midweek against Girona whilst Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa could both be available from the bench in this one. The Reds are still without Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate and Kostas Tsimikas. Slot’s side will also be without Alexis Mac Allister who is suspended having picked up his 5th yellow card of the season at Newcastle.

      Fulham

Tom Cairney will serve the final game of his three-match ban whilst Fulham are also without centre-back Calvin Bassey who picked up his fifth yellow of the campaign against Arsenal last weekend. Joachim Andersen, Harrison Reed and Reiss Nelson are expected to still be unavailable.

      Recent Form/Form Guide

Liverpool’s only stumble of late was in their 3-3 draw with Newcastle last time out in the league. Had it not been for Fabian Schar’s stoppage time equaliser in that match, Slot’s side would be on a nine game winning streak coming into this match.

Fulham are in decent form themselves coming into this game, with just one defeat in their last seven. The fact that was at home to struggling Wolves was a huge surprise, especially as they have taken five points from games against Tottenham, Brighton and Arsenal since then.
