            Newcastle vs Arsenal Prediction

This will be a tricky fixture for Arsenal, but we are backing them to leave with all three points in a narrow win. The Gunners have a magnificent away record in 2024, having lost just once in the Premier League and domestic competitions away from home.

Newcastle are winless in their last three Premier League games, conceding first in five of their previous seven league fixtures. The Magpies have already played three London-based clubs this season, losing two and winning one. Arsenal have been potent in front of goal by scoring first in five of the last seven league games and have led at the interval in six of the last eight games.

This fixture tends to be limited in terms of goals scored, with less than 2.5 goals scored in six of the last seven meetings between the two teams. We expect this trend to continue – Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

Newcastle vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

Arsenal travel up north to take on Newcastle in the Premier League as they look to keep pace at the top of the table.

            Date: 02/11/24

            Kick-off time: 12:30

            Venue: St James’ Park

As expected, Arsenal are among the teams fighting for the title this season. They currently sit in third, but are already five points behind leaders Man City, meaning there is not much room for error in the coming weeks. The Gunners are winless in their last two games following a defeat to Bournemouth and draw with Liverpool, and will be desperate to get back to winning ways this weekend.

It will not be easy, though, as they face a tricky opponent in Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s men have European aspirations once more, but have made an inconsistent start to the campaign. After nine games, they are in 12th position with 12 points. A win against Arsenal would put them back in the mix. The Magpies began the season with three wins in their opening four, but have not won in their last five. This includes a current two-game losing streak.

If the hosts are to get back on track, they will have to be at their strongest defensively against a dangerous Arsenal attack. So far, they have kept just one clean sheet on the season, a 0-0 draw with Everton. Mikel Arteta’s side have the players to punish any mistakes and will certainly take advantage if presented the opportunity here. They were boosted by the return of Bukayo Saka last weekend, and he delivered a goal in their draw against Liverpool. He has three goals and seven assists in the league, and is a key reason for their success.

At the other end, Newcastle will rely on Alexander Isak, who has now scored in two consecutive games, both against Chelsea. The Swede has only netted twice so far this year, after a stellar 21-goal campaign last season. Howe will also welcome the reintroduction of Anthony Gordon, who will provide plenty of pace and creativity on the wing. They should have confidence in troubling a defence who have not kept a clean sheet in their last five league games and may be without a vital component in Gabriel.

In the last five meetings between the pair, there have been little to split them with two wins apiece and a draw. However, stretching back further, Arsenal enjoyed a period between 2018 and 2021 in which they won eight consecutive games against Newcastle in all competitions. Last season, the home team won each game, with Arsenal winning 4-1 at the Emirates and Newcastle winning 1-0 at St James’ Park.

            Form Guide

            Newcastle:

In their last five games, Newcastle have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a tough stretch for the Magpies, in which they have struggled for league wins. This run started with a victory in the EFL Cup, as they defeated lower league AFC Wimbledon 1-0. Fabian Schar scored the winner on the stroke of half-time.

This earned them a home tie against Chelsea in the next round which was their latest game. They advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition with a comfortable 2-0 win. Alexander Isak and an Axel Disasi own goal was enough to go through.

Between these two fixtures were three league games where they were winless. The first was a goalless draw at Everton where they dominated but could not find a breakthrough. This preceded a game with Brighton, a 1-0 loss at home. Danny Welbeck scored the decisive goal in the first half. Another meeting with Chelsea saw them lose 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Isak cancelled out a Nicolas Jackson opener, but Cole Palmer scored the hosts’ second shortly after the break.

            Arsenal:

In their last five games, Arsenal have won three, lost one and drawn one. The Gunners had enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season until their league game against Bournemouth. They lost 2-0 away from home with goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert. William Saliba had earlier been sent off. This preceded a European home tie against Shakhtar Donetsk last Tuesday. They were narrow 1-0 winners with an own goal providing the decisive moment.

At the weekend, they faced Liverpool in a huge clash at the top of the table. The Gunners had a couple of key absences, but they still managed to come away with a 2-2 draw. They took the lead twice through Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino, but were pegged back on both occasions.

Their most recent game was an EFL Cup tie against Preston. They beat their lower league opposition 3-0 with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Havertz. This run started with 3-1 win against Southampton. The Saints took a shock lead, but a quick response from Havertz levelled the score. Gabriel Martinelli and Saka secured the three points.
