          Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle Prediction

It has been an excellent start to the season for Nottingham Forest and we expect this to continue with another win against Newcastle. Forest have greatly exceeded expectations so far, sitting third in the league table after ten games played. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have the second-best defence on record with seven goals conceded, just one less than league leaders Liverpool.

The hosts are unbeaten in their last four league games and are on a three-game winning run. Perhaps more impressively, they have scored first in seven of the last eight fixtures. Newcastle have been struggling away from home, as they are winless in their previous three away games.

Expect goals in this fixture, as both teams have scored in nine of the last ten meetings between the two teams. Chris Wood has been exceptional this season, as the striker has scored eight of the 14 goals scored by Forest this season. The New Zealand captain has scored five Premier League goals in his last four appearances – Nottingham Forest 2-1 Newcastle

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

Nottingham Forest welcome Newcastle to the City Ground looking to continue their stellar start to the season. The visitors are hoping to make it two wins in a row.

          Date: 10/11/24

          Kick-off time: 14:00

          Venue: City Ground

Ten games in, Nottingham Forest have been the surprise of the season. They currently occupy third place in the table, trailing leaders Liverpool by six points and second place Man City by four. They have lost just one game all season, coming against Fulham at home. They have travelled to both Liverpool and Chelsea and came away with a win and draw respectively. Another win this weekend will further cement their position in the top four and bolster their credentials as a contender for European football.

It will not be easy with Newcastle their opponents, but Forest will be confident in extending their three-game winning streak. The Magpies are in 10th place after an inconsistent start to the season, but picked up a huge three points against Arsenal last weekend. With no European football this year, the visitors will be desperate for a win to climb back into the top eight and get right back in the mix.

However, they face a defence who have conceded just seven goals this season. That is the second-best figure in the division. Liverpool are the only team to have allowed fewer with six, and no team remains in single digits. They have only let in two goals in their last four league games. Newcastle have the attacking talent to trouble their opponents, but have struggled for consistency in front of goal. They have found the back of the net 10 times in 10 games. The form of Alexander Isak could be a cause for optimism, as the striker has now scored in three consecutive games in all competitions.

For Forest, Chris Wood is their main threat. The New Zealand native has scored eight goals so far, only Erling Haaland has netted more. Eddie Howe’s side have kept three clean sheets this season but also possess the best defensive record after Forest and Liverpool. This could lead to a tight affair between the sides with no more than one goal to split them.

This fixture has been one-sided in recent seasons. The last five meetings in all competitions has seen three Newcastle wins, one Nottingham Forest win and a draw in the League Cup which the Magpies won on penalties. However, in the Championship, Forest had won three of the previous four matchups prior. Last season, the away team won both games. Forest were 3-1 winners at St James’ Park, whilst Newcastle won 3-2 at the City Ground.

          Nottingham Forest

James Ward-Prowse is able to return after being ineligible to face his parent club last week against West Ham. Ibrahim Sangare is expected to return this month, but this game is too soon. Danilo remains a long-term absentee. Every other player should be available.

          Newcastle

Kieran Trippier could make a return after weeks out with a hamstring problem. Jacob Murphy has been dealing with a lesser hamstring issue, and is also expected to return. Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman are out long-term.

          Form Guide

          Nottingham Forest:

In their last five games, Nottingham Forest have won three, drawn one and lost one. It has been an incredible run for Forest, which has them towards the top of the league table. Their only defeat of this run came at the beginning, as they lost 1-0 at home to Fulham. Raul Jimenez scored the winner in the second half from the penalty spot.

A tough trip to Chelsea followed, but they came away with a point in a 1-1 draw. They took the lead through Chris Wood, but were pegged back by Noni Madueke. Despite a late red card to James Ward-Prowse, they were able to hang on.

Three consecutive wins followed, the first of which a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Wood scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. They then travelled to Leicester, beating the Foxes 3-1. Ryan Yates’ opener was cancelled out by Jamie Vardy before a second half brace from Wood earned them the three points. Their most recent game was a 3-0 win over West Ham. Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ola Aina were all on the scoresheet.

          Newcastle:

In their last five games, Newcastle have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a tough stretch for the Magpies, in which they have struggled for league wins. However, they picked up a huge victory in their most recent game at home to Arsenal. Alexander Isak scored a first half winner.

This followed a home tie against Chelsea in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. They advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition with a comfortable 2-0 win. An Isak strike and Axel Disasi own goal was enough to go through. It was the second meeting with Chelsea in the space of a few days after they faced off in the league, though they lost 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Isak cancelled out a Nicolas Jackson opener, but Cole Palmer scored the hosts’ second shortly after the break.

The first game of this run was a goalless draw at Everton where they dominated but could not find a breakthrough. This preceded a game with Brighton, a 1-0 loss at home. Danny Welbeck scored the decisive goal in the first half.
