Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Will Perry, Alan McInally and Sam Rosbottom of the Group Chat via Betfair met up to discuss the confidence of Arsenal fans heading into their opening Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Arsenal are the most backed team to win the Premier League, as well as to finish in the top four ahead of the new campaign. On top of this, summer signing Gabriel Jesus is the most backed player for the Golden Boot, whilst 24 punters on Betfair have placed a bet on them to win the quadruple at a staggering price of 500/1.

Perry states that Arsenal are the big spenders in the summer transfer window and asks, “is it make or break for Arsenal to finish in the top four this season?”

After all, Arsenal are the third highest spenders in Europe so far, having forked out £120m on the likes of Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

Will continues to mention that there will be stern competition for the final two Champions League spaces as it looks likely that Liverpool and Manchester City will vie for the Premier League title; whilst Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham could potentially be in the mix alongside the Gunners for Champions League football in the 2023/24 campaign.

McInally mentions that he said last year “back him or sack him” when it comes to Mikel Arteta, and gives him credit for turning things around and expects the signings of Jesus and Zinchenko to have positive impacts.

The Scot believes that it isn’t make or break for the Gunners to get into the top four, but, believes that the reason why they’re spending big once again is due to the pressures at Chelsea with a new owner, as well as United not being in good shape squad-wise to start the Premier League campaign, the former Aston Villa man also says that there will be a lot of pressure on Spurs and claims that Arsenal could be trying to capitalise here.

Rosbottom weighed into the conversation by saying that it will be a fascinating contest between the two North London clubs for a place in the Champions League, with Arsenal’s odds standings at 15/8 to make the Premier League’s top four, whilst Spurs are at 4/6.

Sam also says that it is an exciting time for the Gunners fan base and tells us that Gabriel Jesus is priced at 100/30 to score 20 or more Premier League goals, before mentioning that he is very much fancied at 1/14 to score 10 or more this campaign.

McInally expresses his thoughts on Jesus, describing him as a poacher in the box and also believes that this could be a huge season for Bukayo Saka as he is “so good” according to the Scot. The 59-year-old then further elaborates by mentioning the Gunners’ quality in midfield such as Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, saying that “it’s an exciting time to be an Arsenal fan”

The former Sky Sports pundit also says that he would be astounded if Jesus doesn’t get 15 goals this season, and when asked by Perry if Arsenal will make it into the top four, he states that they will, although the expression on his face suggests that it will be close.
