Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa Prediction

This Sunday afternoon, top four contenders Tottenham and Aston Villa come head to head as both teams look to push on domestically.

Tottenham Hotspur have an excellent record at home in the Premier League, with three wins from four as well as recently beating Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday Night. Away from home, Unai Emery's side have an excellent record, maintaining an unbeaten run on their travels in the Premier League as well as boasting an impressive record in their last 7 games.

This fixture tends to provide goals regardless of the scoreline, with six of the last seven meetings providing over 2.5 goals. Combining this with Spurs’ excellent home form and Villa’s excellent away form, we expect both sides to be competitive and go back and forth to take something from this game. - (Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 Aston Villa)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa Preview & Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur aims to gain ground on the Premier League's top four as they host fourth-placed Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

            Date: 03/11/2024

            Kick off: 14:00

            Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Despite an impressive result in midweek against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, Tottenham have suffered losses to top-four contenders Newcastle, Brighton, and Arsenal in the league, highlighting their vulnerability against stronger Premier League teams.

Last weekend, they fell to Crystal Palace 1-0, losing the shot count and expected goals metrics. The north London side has managed only two clean sheets in the league this season, and their resilience will be tested by a formidable Aston Villa team.

However, Tottenham Hotspur have an excellent record at home in the Premier League, with three wins from four with the hosts having averaged 2.25 points per game at home compared to 0.8 suffered on their travels.

While Unai Emery juggling European fixtures, Cup fixtures alongside Premier League duties, Villa remain a highly dangerous side, capable of exploiting Tottenham’s shaky defence. Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League fixtures since their defeat against Arsenal in August.

Away from home, Unai Emery's side have an excellent record, maintaining an unbeaten run on their travels with three wins and one draw in four Premier League away games. After a Cup exit on Wednesday night against Crystal Palace, Villa will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday.

            Aston Villa

Villa are thought to have a clean bill of health at this stage and will have plenty of options for Sunday.

            Form Guide

            Tottenham Hotspur

In the last 5 for Spurs, an away task against Brighton in the Premier League in which the North London side were firmly in control by half time, thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson, who netted for the sixth consecutive game, and James Maddison. However, Brighton staged an impressive second-half comeback, netting three goals in just 18 minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit and defeat Tottenham 3-2 at the Amex Stadium after a shocking collapse from the London side.

West Ham were the next opponents in the Premier League for Spurs who dealt the Hammers a heavy defeat in their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Even though the Hammers took the lead after just 18 minutes, Ange Postecoglou’s men shifted into high gear after halftime, with Yves Bissouma scoring and an own goal from Jean-Clair Todibo giving them a commanding lead in just five minutes. Son then extended the advantage on the hour mark, marking his return from a three-game absence due to a hamstring injury with a powerful run and finish.

Spurs would maintain their flawless start to this season's Europa League on the following Thursday evening, as Richarlison’s second-half penalty secured their third consecutive victory in the tournament. The Brazilian forward scored a well-placed spot-kick to break the deadlock against Dutch visitors AZ Alkmaar.

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their ninth Premier League match of the season. The hosts took the lead when Jean-Philippe Mateta found the net after 31 minutes, through a flamboyant assist by Eberechi Eze. This would prove to be the only goal of the game rounding off a dreadful day and inconsistent form.

On Wednesday night, Spurs recorded a 2-1 win over Manchester City and booked Spurs a Carabao Cup quarter-final meeting at home to Manchester United. Timo Werner opened the scoring for Spurs just five minutes in with a powerful finish, marking his first goal of the season. Pape Matar Sarr's precise strike further solidified Spurs' control, even as nerves began to fray after Matheus Nunes pulled one back for City just seconds before half time.

            Aston Villa

In the last 5 games, before the International break, Villa would host a struggling Manchester United side to Villa Park in what would be a dull affair but a vital point for Unai Emery’s side who look to push on in the league.

Returning from the international break, Villa would travel to the capital to face a strong and improving Fulham side. While taking an early lead through Raúl Jiménez, A deflected Morgan Rogers strike would restore the game to evens after nine minutes. Andreas Pereira would then miss a penalty for Fulham before an excellent Ollie Watkins header would punish the London side. Fulham would then have to play the final half-hour a man down after Joachim Andersen was sent off for impeding Watkins who was through on goal until an Issa Diop own goal meant victory was assured for the visitors.

A return to the Champions League would follow for Villa against Bologna at Villa Park. Jhon Duran proved he’s more than just a super-sub, following up his impressive performance against Bayern Munich with a start against Bologna, John McGinn and Jhon Duran helped propel Aston Villa to the top of the Champions League table.

Premier League would be the flavour for Villa as they welcomed Bournemouth. Ross Barkley appeared to have clinched the three points for Villa by finally beating Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers, but fellow substitute Evanilson had the last word in the 96th minute, heading in a left-wing free-kick to silence the home crowd.

On Wednesday night, Aston Villa were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round by Crystal Palace. Unai Emery made 10 changes to the team that drew with Bournemouth. Despite dominating with nine shots on target, Villa struggled to challenge Palace effectively. Eze gave Palace an early lead, with Jhon Duran equalising shortly after. However, Kamada scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute, ending Villa's cup run.
