Wolves vs Ipswich Town Prediction

Admittedly, we are leaning towards a draw for this game with how these two teams perform in the league.

Both of these sides admittedly come into this game with terrible form, with both of these teams losing their last three league games and Ipswich Town, in particular, winless in their previous four. Wolves have been terrible defensively this season with 38 goals conceded in 15 games, making them the worst team defensively in the Premier League.

Ipswich Town are only marginally better in this column, with 27 conceded in 15. Neither side has kept a clean sheet in the last four, with Wolves conceding first in six of their previous seven.

Expect goals in this game, as both teams scored in eight of the previous ten involving Wolves and five of the last seven involving Ipswich Town. In this fixture, less than 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between the two teams.

All being said, we predict a 1-1 draw in this fixture.

Wolves 1-1 Ipswich

Wolves vs Ipswich Town Preview & Prediction

This weekend, a colossal relegation battle occurs at Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers host Ipswich Town.

Date: 14/12/2024
Location: Molineux, Wolverhampton.
Kick-Off: 3 PM

Gary O’Neil is under increasing pressure during his time at Wolves, and the recent results have only further increased his odds of being the latest managerial casualty this season. The club’s recent game against West Ham United was spotlighted for a potential dismissal battle between Gary O’Neil and Julen Lopetegui, and the Spaniard came out on top. As well as the recent results adding fuel to the speculation, the long-term damage of not replacing the likes of Pedro Neto has criminally damaged the team’s chances this season.

The hosts are level on points with Ipswich Town (nine) heading into this game, although they are 19th in the league table thanks to goal difference. Defensively, there have been serious issues with Wolves, with the hosts having the worst defence on record with 38 conceded. Interestingly, teams at this stage of the season with a similar defensive record have been relegated towards the end of the season in recent years.

As for Ipswich Town, they head into this game 18th in the Premier League with a marginally better goal difference record over Wolves. Ipswich Town conceded 27 goals this season; however, they only scored 14 goals in 15 games, giving them an average of 0.9 goals per game. A win for the Tractor Boys will not move them out of the relegation zone but would move the visitors a point behind Crystal Palace.

Where to watch

The game will not be available to watch on TV.

Team News

Yerson Mosquera and Boubacar Traore will both be unavailable for Wolves.

Ipswich Town will be without the likes of George Hirst and Axel Tuanzebe.

Form Guide

The recent history between the two teams suggests that Wolves will be the favourites for this game, which could provide some solace for Gary O’Neil. Ipswich Town have only won once in the previous five meetings, with Wolves winning twice and the two remaining games in this sequence resulting in a draw. The last league meeting between the two sides occurred in 2018, where Matt Doherty scored the only goal of the game and will most likely feature in the game at the weekend. The two teams met last season in the EFL Cup, and the Tractor Boys beat Wolves 3-2 at Portman Road thanks to goals from Omari Hutchinson, Freddie Ladapo and Jack Taylor. This fixture doesn’t tend to provide many goals, as less than 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between the two teams.

Wolves come into this game only having won once in their previous five Premier League matches at home, and the hosts have recorded four points from 15 on offer at Molineux. The hosts are on an abysmal run of four losses in six at home and three consecutive losses in general. Gary O’Neil’s side have conceded four goals in two of their last three league games (against Bournemouth and Everton, respectively).

Wolves are coming into this game following their recent 2-1 defeat against West Ham United. Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for the Hammers with a back post header in the 54th minute before Matt Doherty equalised 15 minutes later. Jarrod Bowen then scored the winner for West Ham United in the 72nd minute; however, controversially, there was a foul in the build-up that the officials did not spot.

Ipswich Town have only won once all season, but Kieran McKenna will find solace knowing the victory came away from home. The Tractor Boys are coming into this game on the back of three consecutive games in which they have suffered defeat. Ipswich Town only have one win in five and have lost their last three by a single goal (1-2, 0-1 and 1-0) against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest respectively.

In their most recent league fixture, Ipswich Town failed to win at home from an advantageous position. The Tractor Boys took the lead through Conor Chaplin in the 21st minute and were minutes away from victory until two late goals from Enes Unal and Dango Ouattara secured a late win for the Cherries.
