Ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is finally back in the Premier League just ahead of the January transfer window as he replaces Dean Smith as Aston Villa's manager. It is expected that Gerrard will have a bit of a budget to work with this coming winter window after the £100m sale of Jack Grealish and the wealth of the Villa owners.
The Englishman is currently priced at 6/1 to make his first transfer be that of a Liverpool player, which, given he spent over two decades with the club in some capacity, it's fair to say this is a deal that could well go through.
Ultimately, Gerrard isn't going to buy players just because they're from Liverpool. There will need to be some incentive outside of being from his boyhood club, but given the relationship with his ex-team, it will make negotiations a lot easier.
Loan deals do also count, so should he think about acquiring young players like Neco Williams or out-of-favour names like Divock Origi for just the season, this too would mean the 6/1 bet comes in.
