Team by Team Predictions, Preview & Odds for the 2025 Club World Cup

The 2025 Club World Cup adopts a new format this summer, with FIFA expanding its four-team competition to a 32-team format. Qualification is determined by performance in the respective confederation's club championships.

The tournament starts on Sunday, 15th June (15/06/2025) and runs until the 13th of July (13/07/2025), with a total shared prize of $1 billion between the 32 teams and the winners securing a $125 million payday.

The current holders are Manchester City, with notable participants such as Chelsea and Real Madrid also winning the competition in the four-team format in recent years.

Below, we have compiled a brief guide on each team and our assessment of their chances in this competition. Additionally, we have identified the key players who could make an impact for their side.

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

One player who could make the difference despite his performances this season is Phil Foden. Foden suffered last season due to injuries and poor performances. However, with Kevin de Bruyne's departure, the spotlight will be on Foden to deliver similar performances to his 2023/24 campaign.

Vitinha (PSG)

Vitinha has had a fantastic season for the European Champions in PSG, with the midfielder playing an integral role in the midfield alongside João Neves and Fabian Ruiz. Vitinha ended the campaign with a historic treble and is highly regarded as one of the best midfielders in world football.

Giorgian De Arrascaeta (Flamengo)

A name people may not be familiar with is Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who plays for Brazilian side Flamengo. The 31-year-old Uruguayan international has been excellent for Flamengo this season, scoring nine goals in nine league games, while also providing four assists.

Vangelis Pavlidis (Benfica)

Vangelis Pavlidis was tremendous in his debut season for Benfica, following his arrival from AZ Alkmaar last summer. Greek international Pavlidis scored 19 league goals for Benfica and provided 24 goal contributions in total across 27 league starts.

Salem Al-Dawsari (Al-Hilal)

The final player on this list is 33-year-old Salem Al-Dawsari. The Saudi international currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, and this season the midfielder has provided 30 goal contributions in the league (15 goals & 15 assists).

Real Madrid are the most successful team in this competition, having won five titles in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022 under the old format.

Los Blancos will be under new management this summer, so there will be plenty of intrigue as to how Xabi Alonso will fare during his first competitive tournament since his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

They have been handed a straightforward group (on paper at least) consisting of Pachuca, RB Salzburg and Al-Hilal, so progression should be the bare minimum for Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso's side are likely to meet Juventus in the round of 16, and should they get to the semi-finals, a mouth-watering clash against European champions, PSG, could be on the cards.

PSG should be feeling extremely confident heading into their debut FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Luis Enrique's side have had a magnificent season in capturing the treble (Ligue 1, Coupe de France and the UEFA Champions League).

The midfield trio of Joao Neves, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz are likely to be pivotal once again for Le Parisiens, since the dynamic midfield three were excellent in PSG's stellar UEFA Champions League campaign. PSG will face a group consisting of Atletico Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders, which they should progress through with flying colours.

PSG could find themselves playing Chelsea in the last eight, with a potential tie against Real Madrid in the semi-finals. We see Luis Enrique's side as the one to beat, given their form this season so far and the depth of their squad.

Manchester City ended the season without a trophy for the first time under Pep Guardiola since his debut campaign in 2016/17. However, despite losing out in the FA Cup final, Manchester City showed signs of recovering their form from seasons gone by, as they remained unbeaten for the final two months of the season following their defeat to Nottingham Forest in March in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side secured a top-four finish to qualify for the Champions League, and the side from East Manchester are the current holders of the competition.

Manchester City should qualify from a group consisting of Juventus, Wydad AC and Al-Ain. Their route to the final could consist of playing either Inter Milan or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final, with a final tie against European Champions, PSG, potentially on the cards given their recent form and easier recent schedule than some other teams.

Vincent Kompany will lead his Bayern Munich side into another FIFA Club World Cup campaign this summer, having previously won the competition in 2013 and 2020. Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen this season, but fell short in the Champions League at the hands of Inter Milan in the semi finals.

Bayern Munich are heading into the Club World Cup having suffered no losses in their previous seven matches, Their group consists of Auckland City, Boca Juniors and Benfica. We predict Bayern will qualify from their group and reach the semi-finals of the competition, where they could meet Manchester City, an exciting prospect pitting Kompany against Pep Guardiola.

Michael Olise is sure to have an excellent tournament for the Bavarians; the former Crystal Palace winger provided 27 goal contributions in the Bundesliga last season.

The UEFA Europa Conference League winners are no strangers to this competition, having made two previous appearances in this competition, winning the event in 2021 and losing out to Corinthians in 2012. The Blues will be heading into this competition in high spirits thanks to a European trophy following their victory against Real Betis and having secured UEFA Champions League football with a final-day win against Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea open their campaign against Los Angeles FC, with further group games against Flamengo and Esperance De Tunis.

Should they advance to the round of 16 they face a repeat of either the 2012 Champions League final or the 2013 Europa League final where they could meet either Bayern Munich or Benfica. PSG are the most likely team for Chelsea to face if they do manage to progress to the quarter finals, and it's hard to see them progressing further against opposition of that calibre.

Beaten UEFA Champions League finalists, Inter Milan, could be considered as stand-out outsiders for this competition, with attractive odds of 14/1 to win the tournament by the middle of July. The big question the Italian team will need to answer is how their squad will recover from the disappointment which marred the end of an otherwise solid campaign; they lost out in the league race on the final day, the Coppa Italia semis to rivals AC Milan, and were hammered by PSG in the Champions League final.

Following the departure of Simone Inzaghi to fellow Club World Cup participants Al-Hilal, Christian Chivu has replaced the departing Italian at the helm. He has previously managed various Inter Milan youth teams, and was successful in securing Serie A safety for Parma after joining in February.

Inter Milan's group consists of CF Monterrey, River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds. We predict they'll make it as far as the quarter finals, but with the transition period required for Chivu and their recent form, it would be a surprise if they were able to go all the way.

Atletico Madrid are making their first appearance in this competition, as are many other teams with the new format FIFA have introduced. Diego Simeone's side are no stranger to winning prestigious competitions, with the club winning the Europa League three times (2010, 2012 & 2018) and three UEFA Super Cups in those same years.

Atletico Madrid ended the season trophyless, with the side finishing third in La Liga, 12 points adrift of local rivals Real Madrid. Diego Simeone's side are coming into this tournament in reasonable form, with three wins from their previous five matches, but they open their group matches with an extremely tough contest vs PSG.

We predict Atletico Madrid will reach the quarter final stages, but with the likes of Manchester City & Bayern Munich awaiting them, they are likely to find at least one team too good for them before the final stages of the competition.

Former UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund were awarded a place in this competition due to their performances in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the final in 2024, where they were defeated by Real Madrid. This season has been a turbulent one for Borussia Dortmund, as they opted to replace Nuri Sahin as manager with the more experienced Niko Kovac.

Kovac guided Borussia Dortmund to another top-four finish this season - meaning Champions League football again next season -, with his side recording six consecutive wins in all competitions in their last six games.

Serhou Guirassy will be the player to watch for Borussia Dortmund, as the former VfB Stuttgart striker scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga this season.

Borussia Dortmund will more than likely overcome a group consisting of Fluminense, Sundowns and Ulsan HD, but winning this group would put them on a collision course with Real Madrid. Given recent form, and the fight they showed in their second leg against Barcelona when winning 3-1, they could be potential dark horses for an outside run at huge odds.

Juventus' squad showcases a brilliant balance between experience and youth in quality. Arkadiusz Milik and Douglas Luiz are players who have vast experience in representing their nations in big tournaments, whereas Kenan Yildiz is hoping to build on his reputation as one of the starlets across Europe.

The Old Lady ended their league campaign in the top four, with 70 points from 38 games and narrowly beating AS Roma to the coveted UEFA Champions League place. Juventus will enter this tournament unbeaten in their last five competitive games, having lost only once in their last 10 matches.

Igor Tudor's side will face a group consisting of Al-Ain, Manchester City and Wydad AC (Casablanca), with the crucial match being vs Manchester City. It's likely the team who finishes second will play Real Madrid in the Round of 16, and we predict this is where Juventus will suffer an early exit.

Flamengo are the best-performing team in the Brazilian Serie A this season, as they sit top of the league standings after 11 matches played. This could prove to be a good omen for the Brazilian outfit and their chances, since they will have regular match fitness and cohesion, compared to their European counterparts, whose season ended a couple of weeks ago.

Giorgian De Arrascaeta will be key to Flamengo's chances, having already produced a great season thus far, scoring nine goals in nine league games and providing four assists. There is a strong Chelsea connection - who they meet in the group stages - through manager Filipe Luis and midfielder Jorginho.

Flamengo will face current UEFA Europa Conference League holders Chelsea, Esperance De Tunis and Los Angeles FC in their group. They've previously finished as runner up in the competition (2019), and we predict they will successfully navigate a relatively easy group (with the exception of Chelsea), but their squad lacks the same quality as their European rivals.

Palmeiras is the Brazilian club with the most participations in world club competitions, having won the Copa Rio in 1951 and having participated in further club tournaments in 1999 (Intercontinental Cup) plus two appearances in the FIFA Club World Cup (2020 & 2021).

Palmeiras are currently fourth in the Brasileiro Serie A, only two points behind fellow Brazilian counterparts for this tournament, Flamengo.

Vitor Roque is a name that some fans may know, after his stint at Barcelona and previously Real Betis. He was signed by Palmeiras as the most expensive signing ever in South America, and if he can reclaim some of the form he showed before his Barcelona move from Athletico Paranaense he could light up the competition.

The Brazilian side are in a group consisting of FC Porto, Al Ahly and Inter Miami. We predict they can collect enough points to successfully qualify for the Round of 16, but don't see them progressing further.

Benfica narrowly missed out on the league title in Portugal, after being pipped to the title on the final day by a Viktor Gyokeres-inspired Sporting Lisbon side. Benfica qualified for the Club World Cup as the Portuguese side are ranked seventh in the UEFA Club rankings and have shown excellent performances in recent European competitions.

Benfica are in a group consisting of Bayern Munich, Boca Juniors and Auckland City, with the Argentine side Boca Juniors expected to compete for second place with the Portuguese side.

Greek international Vangelis Pavlidis will be pivotal to their chances, having scored 19 league goals for Benfica and provided 24 goal contributions in total across 27 league starts.

FC Porto qualified for the Club World Cup through their performances in the UEFA Champions League over the last five years. The Portuguese side were the victors of the Intercontinental Cup in 1987 and 2004, the year before the change in format and branding to the Club World Cup.

This season, FC Porto finished comfortably adrift of Benfica and eventual league champions, Sporting Lisbon, securing themselves a place in the UEFA Europa League. We predict they will finish top in an open group consisting of Al Ahly, Inter Miami and Palmeiras. Their journey in this competition is likely to end at the round of 16 phase, with a tricky tie against either PSG or Atlético Madrid.

Samuel Aghehowa was in impressive form for Porto last season, scoring 19 goals in 23 league starts, while contributing three assists.

Al-Hilal's performances in the AFC Champions League earned them a place in the coveted FIFA Club World Cup this summer. Al-Hilal won the aforementioned AFC Champions League in 2021, and this season they finished 2nd in the Saudi Pro League, eight points behind Al-Ittihad.

Al-Hilal's squad is filled with recognisable names such as Yassine Bounou, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Malcom, Ruben Neves, Marcos Leonardo, Aleksander Mitrovic, João Cancelo and Kalidou Koulibaly. The Saudi Pro League side are in a group with Pachuca, RB Salzburg and Real Madrid, and we predict they can finish second behind Real Madrid.

Al-Hilal will likely be facing either Manchester City or Juventus in the round of 16, with the European powerhouses likely to be too strong for Simone Inzaghi's side.

Fluminense are heading into this tournament with excellent form behind them, having gone six games without a defeat and with four consecutive victories for the Brazilian side. Fluminense have made only one appearance in this competition, finishing runners-up to Manchester City in 2023.

Fluminense are in fifth place as it stands in the Brasileirão Serie A, with six wins, two draws and three losses from 11 matches. One of the more notable names in the Fluminense squad is veteran centre back Thiago Silva, formerly of Chelsea and AC Milan.

Fluminense are in a group consisting of Borussia Dortmund and relative unknowns in Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns. A second-placed finish should be achievable from this group, with a likely round of 16 exit against Inter Milan.

Boca Juniors are one of the most recognised names of the South American contingent and have made an appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2007, where they were beaten by UEFA Champions League winners AC Milan.

The Argentine side are six-time winners of the Copa Libertadores and are currently third in the league standings, with 33 points from 16 matches, only two points adrift of Rosario Central in 1st. Boca Juniors have some former Premier League representatives in their squad, with three former Manchester United players in Edinson Cavani, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera.

Their group consists of Bayern Munich, Benfica and Auckland City. With Bayern widely expected to top the group and Auckland to finish bottom, Boca will face a tough match vs Benfica to progress to the Round of 16, which we predict will go the way of the Portuguese team.

Botafogo are making their debut appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup after their sensational Copa Libertadores triumph with 10 men against Atlético Mineiro. This season, Botafogo are in sixth place in the Brasileiro Serie A with 18 points from 11 matches.

Botafogo have some notable names in their squad with Arthur Cabral (formerly of Benfica), Allan (Everton) and Alex Telles (Manchester United).

The Brazilian side have been handed a tough group with PSG, Atletico Madrid and Seattle Sounders, and we predict a group stage exit for the Brazilian team this year, given their league form and the opposition they will have to face.

River Plate are another recognisable name in the South American contingent, and they are the club with the most appearances in this competition from Argentina (3). River Plate made two previous appearances in 2015 and 2018, in which they lost on both occassions against Spanish sides in Barcelona (2015) & Real Madrid (2018).

River Plate are currently in fourth place overall in the Liga Profesional de Fútbol this season (second place in Group B). The Argentine side will be without the services of highly rated prospect, Franco Mastantuono, who is joining Real Madrid. Miguel Borja's performances will be key to River Plate's chances of group progression, scoring five league goals in eight league starts.

River Plate are in a group consisting of CF Monterrey, Urawa Red Diamonds and Inter Milan. They will likely be met with a round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Inter Miami's inclusion in this tournament was met with much controversy, as the club had no measure of reputable performances in their respective confederation's club championships. Instead, they were allocated a spot through FIFA's designation of one spot for a team from the US, and Inter Miami were rewarded for having the best overall record in the 2024 MLS regular season.

Inter Miami are in sixth place in the MLS standings, which would earn them a playoff spot at the end of the season. Inter Miami open their campaign against Al Ahly, having been unbeaten in their previous three matches.

Lionel Messi has already achieved success in this competition (alongside Luis Suarez), with three tournament successes in 2009, 2011 and 2015. Messi has already contributed 15 goals this season, but we predict his team will face a group stage exit with Porto and Palmeiras our picks to finish inside the top two.

Los Angeles FC are making their first appearance in this competition after a dramatic playoff victory against Mexican side Club America. The MLS side have effectively replaced another LIGA MX side, Club Leon, after they failed to meet tournament regulations on multi-club ownership.

Los Angeles FC are coming into this tournament with no losses in their previous 10 matches, but they face a difficult challenge when they face UEFA Europa Conference League winners, Chelsea. The two other teams in this group are Flamengo and Esperance de Tunis, with the final game against Flamengo likely to decide the second-placed team in this group.

The American side are currently 12th in the MLS, with 26 points from 16 matches. LAFC's key player is Denis Bouanga, who has provided 12 goal contributions this season.

RB Salzburg faced an anomaly this season as their run of 11 consecutive league titles in the Austrian Bundesliga was ended by an impressive Sturm Graz side. The Red Bull side ended the season in third place, eight points behind league winners Sturm Graz and runners-up Austria Wien.

RB Salzburg have produced some notable players in the past, with the likes of Erling Haaland and Sadio Mane springing to mind. Nene Dorgeles is the next player to come through their ranks, having scored 13 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga this season.

The former Austrian Champions are expected to struggle in a group with Al-Hilal and Real Madrid, and we predict their most likely exit is in the group stage.

Al-Ahly are one of the four CAF teams competing in this year's FIFA Club World Cup, having won the CAF Champions League on a record 12 occasions and domestically are one of the most successful teams in world football with a combined 84 domestic league titles and major cup competitions. They also won the Egyptian League this season, clinching the title on the last day with a 6-0 win two weeks ago.

The Egyptian side has a notable name amongst their ranks in Trezeguet, who played for Aston Villa in the Premier League. Al-Ahly's key player will be Emam Ashour, who has scored 13 league goals this season.

While the Egyptian team may well cause more problems than expected for their rivals, they have been drawn in a tough group, facing Porto, Inter Miami and Palmeiras. Because of this, we predict an early exit.

Seattle Sounders are another side that will be making their debut in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, and have the benefit of playing their three group matches at home, so expect strong support for the MLS team. They qualified for the tournament by winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2022.

However, they are far from that form currently. The American side are 13th in the MLS standings overall and are placed sixth in the Western Conference. They have scored just 25 goals in 18 games so far this season, and lost their last two matches before the Club World Cup.

Albert Rusnak is the player to watch for Seattle Sounders, as the midfielder has scored seven goals this season and has contributed three assists in a difficult campaign so far.

They have been given an extremely tough group (B), with matches against Botafogo, Atletico Madrid & PSG, and we predict an early exit for the US team.

Al-Ain are based in the United Arab Emirates, and the side have previously competed in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2018, losing out to eventual champions Real Madrid in the final.

Al-Ain have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup based on their performances in the AFC Champions League, where they previously finished top of the group phase two seasons prior.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will know about the talents of goalkeeper Rui Patricio, but a player to keep an eye on will be Kodjo Fo Doh Laba. The Togolese international had scored 20 goals in 21 league appearances this season, with his side currently fifth in the UAE Pro League.

They have been placed in group G, with matches against Juventus, Manchester City, and Wydad AC. With two top European clubs also in their group, we predict a third or fourth place finish in the group for the UAE team.

Pachuca are the first of the two Mexican teams on this list (the second being CF Monterrey), and for Pachuca, this will be their fifth appearance in this competition, following four appearances in 2007, 2008, 2017, and 2018. They qualify thanks for winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2024.

Since then, Pachuca's form has struggled. They had a disappointing campaign in the Apertura, finishing 16th, and then only narrowly qualified for the Clausura playoffs after finishing 8th, where they were knocked out in the quarter finals.

Premier League fans will know the name of Solomon Rondon from his spells at Everton, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion. Rondon scored 10 goals in 19 league starts last season.

Pachuca will be in a group with Al-Hilal, RB Salzburg and Real Madrid, and we predict they will finish at the bottom of the group.

Ulsan HD's consistent performances in the K-League 1 & AFC Champions League earned the Korean side a place in this year's FIFA Club World Cup. Ulsan HD have won the last three league titles and are currently third in this season's campaign with 29 points from 19 matches.
