Ben Brereton making headlines

To some, he is Benjamin Anthony Brereton, to others, he is Ben Brereton Diaz, and for a small, lucky group of punters, he is the man potentially earning them thousands of pounds from one outrageous bet.

Blackburn Rovers’ Brereton is currently one of the Championship’s most in-form talents and with 10 goals from only 11 games, only the relentless second tier phenom, Aleksandar Mitrovic, can match his goals record thus far.

Moreover, it seems many up and down the country have backed this crazy punt and we’ve got all the details here and a word from his former teammate, Danny Graham.

*That* Ben Brereton Bet

The bet itself has been backed by many at 500/1 and some even managed to score a 1000/1 on this market that backs Brereton to net 20+ Championship goals this campaign as part of the Blackburn Rovers RequestABets with Sky Bet.

Now, with the Chile international netting for fun and Blackburn performing well just outside the playoff spots, Sky Bet have started to pay out punters who backed this market with the idea that Brereton might just do it.

Some bettors have been offered cashouts of £5k from £10 at 1000/1, while others have seen £2500 from £10 at odds of 500/1. We’ve seen plenty more cashouts out there too, and if you’re one of the lucky, savvy punters who backed this market at the start of the season, send us over your bet slip - we’d love to know if you’re riding the wave for the rest of the season or not!

We sat down with Brereton's Ex-Teammate, Danny Graham

We sat down with former teammate of Brereton’s and owner of sports brand, Fugati, to get his thoughts on this remarkable rise and what the future looks like for the Chile international.

In 100 games for Blackburn he's scored 19 goals, with 10 coming this season. Did you see him developing into a goalscorer?

"Bezza always had the attributes to develop into a goal scorer I think a massive part of his form is down to confidence"

His current deal reportedly expires next summer (rumoured one-year extension clause) - is he ready for a step higher with/without Blackburn?

"I think he’s ready to make the step up he’s playing at a top level now with Chile and doing very well so he has the capabilities to go higher 100%"

Former teammate Bradley Dack has been in a reality show, is Ben the kind of person for an 'At Home With The Breretons' style show now he has nearly 1million Instagram followers?

"Haha! I don’t think Ben will be following in Brad's footsteps into reality TV if you look at the adverts he’s doing for Chile he looks uncomfortable, so no I don’t think that will happen"

What do you put down his form/progression to?

"I honestly put his form down to getting the call from Chile playing in the Copa America, scoring goals and assisting has given him massive belief and he’s brought that confidence back to Blackburn which is great to see."
Which non-Blackburn player would you compare him to?

"It's a tough question to be honest. What Bezza has always been good at is travelling with the ball but was just missing that end product.
"Now he is doing both I don’t like comparing players as they all different. I honestly think Bez just needs to focus on himself and continue to improve."

He's won loads of Blackburn fans money on a bet for him to score 20+ Championship goals, would you have backed it pre-season?

"Personally, I would have backed 20+ but I think his aim was probably get to 10 then see where he goes from there, but he's already on 10 and he needs to keep progressing and aim high.
"20+ is well within his sights now and good luck to him."

So, can Brereton actually do it?

Historically speaking, this is, by a distance, Brereton's best season in professional football after the forward netted just seven times from 40 Championship games last campaign. However, a goal for the Chilean national team has come along with five caps, and with the likes of Alexis Sánchez driving him forward for Chile, the Stoke-on-Trent-born forward might just have found a new lease of life.

Ultimately, it may not come down to form at this stage and perhaps just simple maths, simply because Brereton has 10 goals from 11 games and there are still 35 more fixtures to be played. So, by that ratio, Brereton won’t just bag 20+ in the league season, but likely challenge Mitrovic, Viktor Gyökeres, Dominic Solanke and others for the top scorer status at the end.

Thus far, his goal conversion rate has gone from 10% to 26%, and it does look as if the next 15-20 games are going to be the most crucial. Regardless, if Brereton can get around five or six more over the next 14 games before the turn of 2022, then the next 20 games that come in 2022 should see him ease past this margin.
