Luton Town To Win Promotion - 3/1

First up we're starting in the Championship where we're backing newly relegated Luton Town to secure an immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

Luton feel like an interesting case heading into this season. Somewhat unheralded, Luton have been quietly going about their business this summer and have an exceptionally strong and well-versed Championship squad. The Hatters have a very settled team and of the three sides promoted in 2022/23, they arguably prepared for this situation the most effectively.

Luton still have the majority of the squad that gained promotion the last time they were in this division and upon promotion to the Premier League they made further additions to the squad with proven Championship quality, likely in anticipation of this scenario.

The Hatters have lost Ross Barkley to Aston Villa this summer and will likely need to replace him, but they currently look on course to retain most of their best talent and in the signing of Shandon Baptiste from Brentford they've acquired another proven Championship player, in addition to recruiting a promising young defender in Reuell Walters from Arsenal.

Backed by manager Rob Edwards, Luton have a fearsome attack lead by two strikers in Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris who more than proved themselves in the Premier League. Add to that goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, the class of 22-year-old Teden Mengi at centre-back and wing-back Alfie Doughty and you can see just how strong Luton are looking.

Middlesbrough To Make The Playoffs - 11/4

Middlesbrough have been knocking on the door at the top end of the Championship in both of the last two seasons under Michael Carrick and we think they'll continue to be a significant presence in the division this time around.

Michael Carrick took over at Middlesbrough during the 2022/23 season with Boro languishing in the relegation zone. Following his appointment, they shot up the league table, eventually finishing 4th, but were unsuccessful in the playoffs.

That season Boro had a squad filled with loan players, all of whom departed in the summer, which meant there was a significant amount of squad turnover in last year's summer transfer window which, combined with an injury crisis, meant Boro started last season slowly and didn't gain any significant momentum until the latter third of the campaign. They did, though, finish very strongly despite their perpetual injury crisis and were ultimately only four points shy of a playoff spot.

Middlesbrough's star midfielder, Hayden Hackney, has been highly coveted by Premier League clubs for a while now but transfer rumours involving his name have quietened down notably. If they can keep his services, which currently looks very possible, and can manage to keep their squad fit they're going to be an exceptionally strong team, particularly with the additions of talented American midfielder Aidan Morris and winger Delano Burgzorg, who spent last season on loan at Huddersfield.

Birmingham City To Win Promotion - 10/11

Birmingham City, freshly relegated from the Championship, are the red-hot favourites for promotion from League One this season and we think that's a tag that's well justified.

The Blues had a sorry campaign last season but that's well and truly in the rearview mirror now, with optimism high in the blue corner of Birmingham after a summer involving a lot of movement.

Birmingham have a new manager at the helm - Chris Davies, a highly rated coach who was Ange Postecoglou's assistant at Tottenham Hotspur - and have backed him to the hills with a number of high-quality additions. The Blues have spent roughly £10m, an eye-watering amount at this level, with the additions of players like Christoph Klarer, a centre-back from Darmstadt, and Willum Thór Willumsson, an attacking midfielder from Go Ahead Eagles. Birmingham have also added striker Alfie May to their arsenal, a striker who's bagged 66 goals across the last three League One seasons combined.

Despite suffering a relegation, Birmingham are arguably stronger on paper than they were last season and if they can bring back young striker Jay Stansfield on a permanent deal from Fulham, as is currently rumoured, they're going to be incredibly tough to stop.

Huddersfield Town To Make The Playoffs - 11/4

Another newly relegated side, Huddersfield Town, are looking to bounce straight back to the Championship from League One this season and we think they're in a good position to do just that.

The Terriers' setup has undergone quite a bit of surgery this summer but it's all been done in a very "safe" manner. The Yorkshire club have appointed manager Michael Duff, a man proven at this level during his time with Cheltenham Town and Barnsley, to guide them back to England's second tier

Huddersfield lost midfielder Jack Rudoni to Coventry City this summer, but they've kept the majority of the remainder of their best players (at the time of writing) and have made some very secure additions to the squad in midfielder Herbie Kane from Barnsley, wingers Lasse Sørensen from Lincoln City and Mickel Miller from Plymouth Argyle and attacking midfielder Antony Evans from Bristol Rovers, all players in their mid-twenties with a proven track record in this division.

Huddersfield's ceiling feels slightly harder to determine - and probably lower than the likes of Birmingham and Bolton in our opinion - than other teams in this division but their floor also feels extremely high, so a top six finish feels like a good bet to us.

Port Vale To Win Promotion - 11/4

The bookies currently make Port Vale (somewhat) outsiders for promotion at sixth favourites this season, but we're fairly confident about their prospects.

The League Two side were relegated from League One last time out but have dealt with relegation very effectively on paper, both in terms of their player recruitment and the manager they appointed.

Darren Moore, who admittedly divides opinion, is now at the helm, and while he's struggled to make his mark when managing in the Championship his record at the lower ends of the EFL is very impressive.

In the transfer market, Port Vale's business cannot be argued with, as midfielder George Byers is arguably the signing of the season so far in that division given his quality, which is almost certainly well above League Two level.

Striker Lorent Tolaj, midfielder Ryan Croasdale and the experience of goalkeeper Ben Amos are highly shrewd additions to the squad, while the extension of teenage striker Baylee Dipepa amidst a wealth of big club interest has them looking extremely healthy.
