Europe, Cups & League Odds: Which Premier League Teams Are Surprising us in 2020/21?

There is plenty of optimism around Goodison Park at the moment, with the Toffees looking very promising after securing all nine points in their opening three games, scoring eight and conceding three.

The Merseyside outfit have been building a team to threaten the top six ever since the takeover of Farhad Moshiri in 2016 allowing the signature signings of elite players like Richarlison and Lucas Digne. This season, the trio of midfielders in Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez have taken the club to the next level and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fifth goal in three games, the Merseysiders are undoubtedly a genuine threat to the European spots.

It was a huge coup for Everton when they announced the former Premier League-winning manager Carlo Ancelotti as their new boss, and the experienced Italian seems the perfect fit for such a charge towards the Europa League and maybe even a cup.

Now, with a team boasting more Champions League medals than every club in England, other than Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, Everton are 9/1 to win the League Cup, 9/2 to get top four, 5/4 to get top six, 20/1 to win the FA Cup, whilst Calvert-Lewin has been slashed to 9/1 to claim the Golden Boot.

After a shock 3-1 win at Old Trafford to make it two wins from two, could Crystal Palace be a surprise package this season, despite their loss to other surprise contenders, Everton?

Roy Hodgson’s side were the worst team - bar Norwich City - in 2020, and were thankful to stay in the Premier League only because of the form shown prior to Project Restart. However, the Eagles were deserving winners against Manchester United after beating Southampton in their opening game, and if it wasn't for another controversial penalty decision, the club would still be unbeaten.

Palace were tipped by many to be relegated prior to the start of the season, but their odds to do so have now moved to 11/2, with the likes of Burnley and last season's surprise package, Sheffield United, moving above them.

The Eagles already have some quality players like Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew in their ranks, and the acquisition of promising playmaker, Eberechi Eze, from Queens Park Rangers, and Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea. Now, avoiding relegation at 1/10 and even a charge to inside the top half at 10/3 is well on the cards, whilst you can still get odds of 40/1 for Palace to win the FA Cup and 11/2 to be relegated.

Leeds United are another side that are tipped by many to avoid relegation by some distance this season, but just how far can Marcelo Bielsa take the Yorkshire side?

The inspirational manager has received plaudits from pundits and coaches alike for his type of football that has seen Leeds win the Championship and get the best from their impressive roster. The Argentine has strengthened the Whites even more in the window, signing some exciting talents like Spain international Rodrigo and former Real Madrid defender, Diego Llorente.

At the same time, when doubts were lingering on the abilities of players already withing the Leeds ranks, such as Patrick Bamford, the striker already has three goals from three goals, scoring in ever league fixture thus far.

Bielsa’s men showed the exhilarating brand of football he’s got them playing already in the opening weeks, pushing the champions Liverpool all the way in the thrilling 4-3 defeat at Anfield. They then followed it up by putting four past Fulham in their first league match at Elland Road for 16 years.

Now, after beating fellow Yorkshire side, Sheffield United, at Bramall Lane, Leeds are well on course to avoid relegation at 1/50, crack the top half at 11/8, whilst odds at 9/1 for a top six finish wouldn't be the most outrageous bet.

You can also get odds of 2/1 to Leeds to finish higher than Wolverhampton Wanderers and 9/2 to finish higher than Spurs. On the other hand, odds are now a high 11/1 for the club to be immediately relegated back to the Premier League.

Arsenal have had a difficult time in the Premier League ever since winning the title back in 2004 in unrivalled fashion, as their Invincibles squad rapidly disintegrated within the next two seasons without any positive replacements.

However, Mikel Arteta has had a great impact on the north London so far since taking over in February, with the ex-Manchester City assistant coach beating his former club and Chelsea to win the FA Cup, whilst also beating Liverpool in the Community Shield and Premier League.

Arsenal have carried that on into this season, beating Fulham and West Ham United in convincing fashion, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continuing the special form which earned them the FA Cup last season.

With some shrewd signings such as centre back Gabriel from Lille and experienced Premier League winger, Willian, from Chelsea, 2020/21 could be the season Arsenal finally return back to the top four and compete amongst the best for the first time in almost five years.

Arsenal top four odds now sit at 13/8, a top six finish is priced at 1/2, a League Cup triumph has odds of 9/1, whilst Arsenal to win the FA Cup odds are at 9/1.

The opening defeat at home to Everton wasn’t the worst possible start for Spurs and also a look into the season ahead with the Toffees' impressive early rise.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men bounced back in style and looked back to their best with the 5-2 thrashing of Southampton at St Mary’s. They started off a little ropey, but the second half saw Harry Kane and Son Heung-min turn on the style to rip the Saints apart, with the Englishman netting one and assisting all of Son's four goals.

Now, with Sergio Reguilón and Matt Doherty arriving to bolster the full-back positions as well as the incredible return of two times PFA Player of the Year, Gareth Bale, the mood around Spurs is looking more positive.

The signing of Bale could turn out to be one of the signings of the summer if the Welshman can keep fit and find which helped Real Madrid win four Champions League titles in five years. The mouth-watering prospect of a Son, Kane and Bale as a front three could see Spurs back in the hunt for Champions League football after falling short last season.

At the same time, Mourinho's relentless nature to win and history in competitions like the League Cup, where he has won the trophy four times, could bring the first piece of silverware to Spurs in 12 years - they are priced at 10/1 to win the League Cup and 8/1 to win the FA Cup.

At the same time, the introduction of four-time Champions League winner, Bale, could propel the Lilywhites to the top four, where the club have odds of 7/2 to do so, and 1/1 to get top six once again.
