Premier League’s Friday night football returns this week following last weekend’s FA Cup action with the M23 derby taking place at the Amex Stadium, as Brighton & Hove Albion hosts Crystal Palace.
At present, these two sides are ninth and 12th in the Premier League table, with the Seagulls being four points better off than Palace, having played one less match, seeing them sit just four points behind Manchester United.
In the last meeting between these two sides, the match finished 1-1 at Selhurst Park with the Eagles taking the lead in first-half stoppage time thanks to a Wilfried Zaha penalty, before Neal Maupay equalised in the 95th minute of the match to earn his side a point with an audacious lob over Vicente Guaita.
Brighton come into this fixture in decent form, having progressed through to the fourth round of the FA Cup last weekend following a 2-1 victory over West Brom thanks to goals by Jakub Moder and Maupay. Prior to this, Graham Potter’s men had also beaten Everton 3-2, as well as Brentford 2-0 on either side of a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Their last loss came on December 15th when they were beaten 1-0 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Palace won a derby match at the weekend when they narrowly beat Millwall at the New Den due to an inspired performance from summer signing Michael Olise, as the former Reading man scored their equaliser in the match before setting up Jean-Philippe Mateta for their winner having initially fallen behind to a Benik Afobe goal.
In their run-up to their FA Cup victory, Palace had been beaten 3-2 by West Ham, won 3-0 at home against Norwich City, before being defeated 3-0 at the hands of Spurs and earned a point at home to Southampton in a 2-2 draw in mid-December.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Crystal Palace 15/2
