Cardiff City vs Wrexham Prediction

The Championship's opening game week concludes with a cracker on Monday night as Cardiff City lock horns with Wrexham in a Welsh derby.

Cardiff City are newly promoted from League One having finished 2nd in the table with 91 points. The Bluebirds are largely expected to survive this season after adding some decent quality over the summer, bringing in Jack Moylan from League One title winners Lincoln and goalkeeper Nathan Trott from Copenhagen.

Cardiff finished last season with three wins from their last four games and beat Swindon Town 3-2 in the EFL Cup last weekend, so they're in good shape. The Bluebirds also enjoyed some good results in pre-season, beating Cork City, Forest Green and AS Roma.

Their home form was excellent last season, where they lost only three games in the league throughout the campaign.

All of their last seven games have seen over 2.5 goals scored, six of which have also seen BTTS occur.

Wrexham, meanwhile, are coming into this game with lofty ambitions. The Welsh club missed out on the play-offs on the final day of the Championship campaign last season and will be firmly aiming to go one better this time around.

They've kept their squad together and have only shed players they wanted to, while also adding quality in the shape of Ben Whiteman, Danny Imray and Anthony Patterson.

Wrexham had a solid pre-season, beating Leeds and Man United while losing to Liverpool and Sunderland.

Phil Parkinson's side also lost to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup last weekend so their preparations for this game weren't ideal, which will certainly encourage Cardiff.

Wrexham have now won only two of their last seven domestic games on the road and while Cardiff are a newly promoted team, it won't be an easy fixture.

We expect a competitive affair with the newly promoted side coming away with a result.
