A League Two FA Cup battle occurs this weekend, as Doncaster Rovers host Accrington Stanley. The Reds have won three of the last four matches between the two sides.
Doncaster
The Vikings went seven games without a victory at the start of the League Two campaign, but in recent weeks their performances have significantly improved. Doncaster have conceded an average of 1.56 this season, but their record at home (1.22) is much better. In fact, 70% of their points tally has come at the Eco-Power Stadium.
Last time out, the Rovers beat Grimsby Town by a 1-0 score line, in a game that witnessed little action. Doncaster deserved the win and Joe Ironside converted from the spot to give his side all three points.
Accrington
The Reds have had a solid start to the League Two campaign and after 16 matches, they are in 7th place. Accrington have won half of their matches thus far, yet they do not excel at either ends of the field. John Coleman’s side score an average of 1.57 goals per game, whilst conceding 1.31. Luckily for the Reds, they seem to have multiple goal sources, with five players netting at least three times in the league.
After five straight wins in all competitions, Accrington suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Colchester last time out. The hosts more than deserved to win the game, registering 31 shots, 65% possession and 11 corners. Despite the continuous pressure, they were unable to breach the opponents defensive unit.
Verdict?
Accrington Stanley will want to redeem themselves after that frustrating match versus Colchester and they should have enough quality to overcome Doncaster.
The final prediction is Doncaster 1-2 Accrington.
