League Two side, Salford City, will look to cause an FA Cup upset as they travel to League One side Peterborough United.
Peterborough United
Consistent is the best way to describe Peterborough under Darren Ferguson and once again they are in and around the top of League One. The Posh have players all over the field and on the bench that can hurt the opposition, with 11 different goal scorers and eight of them have netted at least twice. They are the fourth highest scorers in the league, with an average of 1.67 per game, whilst failing to score once in 15 matches.
Peterborough are usually solid at the back, only holding 1.07 goals per game, but last time out in League One, they conceded twice in a 4-2 away win over Blackpool. At half time, the Posh had missed a penalty and were 1-0 up. After the break, the hosts had a man sent off, which Ferguson’s side took advantage of, and by the hour mark they were 3-0 up. However, the boss will not be pleased with the way his side became complacent from that point on.
Salford City
Salford have had a rather inconsistent start to the 2023/24 League Two campaign, which has put them in 13th place. Neil Wood’s team have the seventh best attacking record, netting 26 times in 16 matches. However, they concede an average of 1.5 goals per game and according to the statistics, they are stronger defensively on the road than they are at home.
They displayed that last time out in League Two, as they drew 0-0 away to Barrow. Salford dominated the possession and the chances, but they were unable to register a shot on target, never-mind a goal. The Ammies also played Manchester United U21’s this week and edged the youth side 4-3.
Verdict?
Peterborough should have enough quality to beat Salford this weekend and they will look to test the resilience of Wood’s backline from the off.
The final prediction is Peterborough 2-0 Salford.
