Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Burnley to north London for the first FA Cup week of 2024 that sees a bunch of games go down on Friday night as Ange Postecoglou looks to put together a rare cup win with the Lilywhites.
Despite the much-improved form since Postecoglou took to the helm, Tottenham have failed once again to put their marker down on a cup competition after losing in the second round of the EFL Cup to Fulham. It means the long wait for a trophy continues for Spurs right now, but with a meeting against a struggling Burnley and Liverpool and Arsenal meeting with one another, fans should be hopeful of a solid run in the FA Cup.
Back in the league, Postecoglou's side returned to winning ways after a 4-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion booted Spurs to fifth. The north London side defeated the in-form Bournemouth over the weekend, as Son Heung-min continued to impress with a great finish before Richarlison slotted in a cool finish. Pape Sarr also netted his first league goal of the season with a goal after nine minutes.
This has put Spurs within just one point of their city rivals Arsenal, while the gap remains at six points on first-placed Liverpool. Better yet, Spurs are only outscored by the top three in the league with them now scoring 42 times across the 20 Premier League fixtures.
As for Burnley, hope of survival this season has gradually improved lately, although the gap is still five points on Everton in the safe spots of the league. Nevertheless, Vincent Kompany's men suffered just three losses in December and managed to smash Sheffield United 5-0, win 2-0 away to Fulham and also draw with Brighton.
Like Spurs, however, Burney were out of the EFL Cup fairly early on after a 4-0 win away to Salford City was met with a 3-0 loss to Everton in the round of 16. Now, with relegation expected, an FA Cup run could well be the only major thing to come out of Burnley's season.
