West Ham United will be looking to close the gap on fourth place as they continue their hunt for Champions League football and if they can beat Burnley, then the gap between them and Chelsea will either be closed or maintained at three points depending on Chelsea’s result versus Fulham.
The Hammers will be looking to rebound after their 1-0 loss to Chelsea at home last weekend, which seemed to have been a nail in the coffin for their Champions League spot. The only goal of the game came when Timo Werner converted a Ben Chilwell cut back just before half-time, as West Ham were unable to find a reply and things got worse when Fabian Balbuena was red carded for a challenge on the Blues left-back. After the controversial nature of the red card, it was ultimately rescinded, and the Paraguayan is available for this game once again.
With Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton all within touching distance of both Chelsea and the Hammers, West Ham simply have to continue their unexpected form and collect all three points against Burnley, which could all but confirm Europa League football at a bare minimum.
Burnley, on the other hand, are coming off an outstanding 4-0 over Wolves in a performance which caught a lot of people by surprise and one that confirmed their Premier League survival. The Clarets will be looking to Chris Wood to try and secure three points as last weekend he was able to bag himself a hat-trick.
With West Ham being in great form before their game against Chelsea and with players such as Jesse Lingard, Tomas Soucek and Vladmir Coufal also in form, it will be very hard for Burnley to beat David Moyes’ team. However, if Burnley turn up in the manner they did against Wolves, this could be a real Achilles heel for the London outfit.
In the previous meetings, West Ham have won seven games compared to the Clarets' five, while they have only drawn one game, as the previous meeting finished as a 1-0 win to West Ham thanks to a Michail Antonio goal.
As the Hammers are perusing European football, they will most likely come out on top since they must pick up three points if they still believe in qualifying for the Champions League, especially if Chelsea win.
