The last meeting between these two sides was back in mid-November, with Crewe Alexandra emerging as 2-0 victors at Gresty Road thanks to goals from Shilow Tracey and Ryan Cooney while Chris Long received a 84th-minute red card.
Notts County are having a solid campaign, as they sit just two points behind third-place AFC Wimbledon, who occupy the final automatic promotion place. Stuart Maynard’s men have won 17, drawn ten and lost ten of their 37 league matches, while scoring 56 goals and conceding 39 times.
As far as cup competitions go, Notts County were very unlucky to be eliminated from the EFL Trophy, as they exited the competition with six points from three Group Stage matches having beaten Burton Albion (2-1) and Leicester City’s Under 21s ((1-0).
The Magpies were eliminated in the FA Cup by Peterborough United via a 4-3 scoreline in the Second Round after thrashing Alfreton Town (5-1) in the First Round, while their League Cup campaign was also short, as they were beaten by Shrewsbury Town on penalties after 3-3 draw in the First Round.
On the other hand, Crewe are just one points behind seventh-place Colchester and six points adrift of Wimbledon, as they have accumulated 57 points from 37 matches, winning 14, drawing 15 and losing eight times while scoring 45 goals and conceding 38.
Alexandra actually managed to reach the Round of 32 stage in the EFL Trophy, however, they were beaten 1-0 away at Wrexham after advancing through a Group Stage featuring the likes of Blackpool, Liverpool’s Under 21s and Harrogate Town.
In the two major domestic cups, Crewe suffered two disappointing First Round defeats, as they were beaten by Rotherham United (2-1) in the EFL Cup, while suffering an embarrassing 1-0 loss at the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup.
