Barnsley vs Blackpool Prediction, Tips & Stats

Barnsley and Blackpool will clash at Oakwell this Saturday as two promotion hopefuls from League One meet in what the bookies are calling one of the closest games in the Football League this Saturday.

Barely anything is separating these two sides ahead of the game in terms of odds, with Barnsley sitting at 6/5 to win the game on their own patch and Blackpool at 2/1 to register an away win. However, with Barnsley up into fifth after a decent run of form, there seems to be value in them this weekend.

A rough start to the season for the Tykes now sees them on a two-game winning run after defeating the impressive Manchester City U21s 3-1 in the Football League Trophy group stages. Conor McCarthy, Jon Russell and Emmaisa Nzondo scored a goal each that day, as Barnsley bagged a goal from all three shots on target.

Prior to this, the Tykes edged past the struggling Northampton Town wiht a goal each from Callum Styles and Devante Cole. The only defeat for Barnsley in recent weeks has seen them lose in a 3-2 home defeat to Portsmouth where Styles continued his solid goalscoring form, just as Barry Cotter netted in the second half too. However, Barnsley were 3-0 down inside 16 minutes, which includes two goals in 26 seconds from Pompey on the eighth minute.

Further wins for the Tykes has seen them beat Burton Albion, Cheltenham Town and Wigan Athletic all by a 2-0 scoreline, while with them beating Grimsby Town in the EFL Trophy by the same scoreline, the club have now won six of their past seven games and established themselves as arguably the team to beat in the EFL Trophy too.

As for Blackpool, they are down in 14th but head into this one after arguably their best performance of the season that saw them beat Reading 4-1. Jordan Rhodes stole the show that day with a hat-trick in 51 minutes, as Kylian Kouassi also scored in the first half of an impressive win. Even in the goal they conceded, James Husband was the culprit of an own goal.

The last defeat for Blackpool came in just before that, as the Tangerines were beaten by Wycombe Wanderers. Blackpool team news

Koussasi and Rhodes will start up top once again for Blackpool, as they scored a combined four goals last time out against Reading. Ollie Norburn and Dougall are expected in midfield too with Owen Dale. However, Virtue looks set to miss this one with an injury, but Matthew Pennington is back now with Casey in defence. Like the Tykes, Blackpool are yet to get a suspension this season.

            Barnsley team news

A midweek battle with Man City U21s likely forces a few changes for Barnsley, as Nathan James missed out in the game and could come in here. Devante Cole and Callum Styles were never in the swuad, so they may come in here, as Watters and Jaio drop out. Benson and Benson are expected on the wings, however, with Jon Russell expected in again. Jack Shepherd was booked and taken off in the last outing and should feature in this one, but perhaps from the bench. There have been no suspensions for Barnsley to deal with so far this season.
