Blackpool’s League One playoff push resumed this weekend as they face Exeter City at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool currently sit 8th in League One with eleven wins, six draws and nine losses from twenty-six games this season.
The Seasiders have been up and down in terms of form in League One and would likely to be a more concrete promotion contender than they currently look, but they’re still in a decent position to mount a serious push for a top-six finish.
They’re entering this game amidst a fairly poor run of form in the league having won two and lost three of their last five games, the most recent of which was a 2-0 win over Lincoln City.
The win over Lincoln was much-needed and came thanks to goals from Oliver Casey and CJ Hamilton, who put the Tangerines to within four points of the playoff places.
Following that game Blackpool travelled to Premier League side Nottingham Forest for an FA Cup tie, and despite going in as a heavy underdog they managed to hold them to a 2-2 draw courtesy of goals from Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel and Albie Morgan, thus forcing a replay at Bloomfield Road.
Things are looking good for Blackpool then, and they can be extra confident about taking three points from this game given their excellent home record that has seen them win all of their last six games on home soil in all competitions.
They are, then, clear favourites to win this one.
Exeter City currently sit 20th in League One with seven wins, five draws and thirteen losses from twenty-five games.
Exeter are having a tough time in League One and come into this game just three point outside of the relegation zone.
They have shown some encouragement in recent weeks though, with Gary Caldwell’s men having won two, drawn one and lost one of their last four games in the league.
Their latest outing saw them claim a huge three points in a 2-1 win at home to Carlisle United thanks to goals from Reece Cole and Sonny Cox.
Beating fellow relegation contenders on home soil is an absolute much in a relegation scrap and Exeter did just that, so they come into this game now hoping to build one that win.
Their form away from home does not offer much hope of a result, however, as they enter this one having failed to win any of their last eight games on the road, losing seven of those.
Given Blackpool’s strength at home it’ll take a big performance from Exeter to take anything from this game, and right now that doesn’t feel all that likely.
For our Blackpool vs. Exeter prediction, we’re going for a 2-1 win for the home side.
