Blackpool vs Oxford United Prediction, Tips & Stats

Oxford United and Blackpool will take on one another in a massive battle for the playoff spots in League One as seventh heads to eighth in the third tier with both sides narrowly out of the top six.

It's been a stunning rise in form shown by Blackpool in recent weeks. The club head into this game having cut the gap from 15 points to just six on the playoff positions, as they have won two fewer games than the sixth-placed Stevenage. It does mean that a few more results need to go in their favour, but given the form they've shown over the past two months, fans should be confident in closing that gap a little more.

The Tangerines did, however, lose to Stevenage last time out with the club suffering a 1-0 defeat on the road. A victory over Bolton in the Football League Trophy before that, on the other hand, sets up a semi-finals battle with Peterborough United in two weeks. Blackpool's last win in the league was away to Bristol Rovers, as a 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic came soon after.

Oxford are a two-game drawing run after ties with the league leaders Portsmouth and a 1-1 clash with Reading. A further 3-1 loss and a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley means that Oxford are on a four-game winless skid since defeating Carlisle United at Brunton Park back in early January.

The U's are still only behind Stevenage by just one point, however, and with a fantastic record of 49 goals scored from 30 games, no side outside of the top six has scored more than them.

          Blackpool team news

Grimshaw will line up in goal once more for Blackpool, while Husband, Ekpiteta and Pennington should start in the back three. Matty Virtue is now back as well and could feature here, while Karamoko Dembele should also start in the forward lines after missing the last outing. Coulson, Morgan, Norbun and Lawrence-Gabriel are all set to feature here too in midfield. Callum Connolly is also back, and we should see more minutes from Oliver Casey and George Byers.

          Oxford United team news

Negru, Moore and Ciaron Brown should all feature in the defence here, but Leigh at left-back faces a late fitness test. Burey McGuane and Brannagan are all set to start in midfield it would seem, and Goodrham seems to have passed a late fitness test. Rodrigues and Mark Harris should remain in the forward lines. Owen Dale and Jay Matete are both out injured for Oxford, but Jordan Thorniley and Josh McEachran have both returned to action and could get more minutes.
