Derby vs. Cheltenham Prediction, Tips & Stats

Derby County's promotion push resumes this weekend as they take on Cheltenham Town in League One.

Derby County currently sit 4th in League One with sixteen wins, five draws and seven losses from twenty-eight games so far this season.

The Rams are having a strong season and despite their slow start a recent surge in form has seen them charge up the table towards the automatic promotion places.

Their form has dropped off somewhat recently, though, as they come into this game having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games in the league.

Their latest outing was emblematic of their drop-off as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Reading, a side currently in the relegation zone.

The Rams could have few complaints with the result either, as Paul Warne's side failed to register a single shot on target in the entire ninety minutes.

They can at least fall back on their home form though, with the Rams having lost only one of their last eleven league games on their own patch.

There's no cause for panic yet in terms of Derby's automatic promotion push as they're still just two points outside of the top two, but more results like last weekend will see them fall further adrift of the likes of Portsmouth and Peterborough.

They're facing a side in the relegation zone for the second time in the space of a week but given this one is in front of their own fans there's no excuse for failing to win here.

Cheltenham Town currently sit 22nd in League One with six wins, five draws and fifteen losses from twenty-six games this season.

The Robins are, predictably, struggling in League One which is pretty much what everyone expected of them coming into the campaign.

They started the season abysmally and, in fairness, they have improved notably and realistically they have a good chance of securing survival.

They're coming into this game in mixed form having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games, the most recent of which was a 1-0 loss away at Bolton Wanderers.

Given Bolton are currently 3rd in the league table there's no issue with that defeat, and given they've taken three points from their last two games, which both came against sides in the current top three, there's no doubt they'll be pleased with that return.

Their away form isn't the best, however, as they've won just one of their last five games on the road and given they're winless against the Rams in any of the last three head-to-head meetings between the two sides (W0 D1 L2) it feels likely they'll fall to another defeat here.

For our Derby vs. Cheltenham prediction, we're going for a 2-0 win for the home side.

          Derby Team News

Ryan Nyambe, Craig Forsyth, Korey Smith, Martyn Waghorn and Conor Washington are all out for the Rams here.

The likes of Tyreece John-Jules and Louie Sibley could come into the starting lineup after defeat last time out.

          Cheltenham Team News

Will Goodwin is now plying his trade for Oxford United in what is a big blow for the Robins.

They do, though, come into this one with a fully fit squad and could introduce the likes of Aidan Keena and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji to the starting lineup after losing to Bolton last weekend.
