13:15 - Doncaster - Downonmainstreet

ITV’s coverage of the St Leger Festival gets underway with the British Stallion Studs ‘Carrie Red’ EBF Fillies’ Nursery Handicap on Thursday.

Downonmainstreet looks like a very interesting selection in her chase to rack up a hat-trick. The Michael Bell runner took the step up to six furlongs in her stride at the end of last month, finishing just under a length clear of Laylaty at Ffos Las.

She is unlikely to have finished improving, and she still looks on a workable mark despite being hiked up 5lb to an OR of 78. In-form David Egan retains the ride after being aboard the selection for her back-to-back wins at Chepstow and Ffos Las.

13:50 - Doncaster - Night In Vegas

Next up is the Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, run over 6 ½ furlongs. Night In Vegas has kept a high level of form throughout the season, winning on back-to-back starts at Ascot and Goodwood, before finishing an excellent fifth in the Group Two Coventry.

Maintained that level of form when a close third in the Group Two Richmond, before winning impressively at Newmarket at the end of last month when holding off Zigazig Ah to win by just under two lengths.

Any rain will be a bonus, as his most striking display to date came when winning on good-to-soft at Goodwood in May.

14:25 - Doncaster - Runman

A handicap over a mile and two is next up at Doncaster, and cases could be made for plenty of runners in the field.

Runman could be an interesting selection for the John & Thady Gosden team, with Oisin Murphy booked aboard. The yard has a 22% strike rate in 3yo middle-distance Class 2 handicaps this autumn, and Runman boasts a very progressive profile.

He took his form to the next level when he stepped up in distance, staying on strongly to beat Wild Thoughts by a length at Newbury. Track conditions should suit, and his mark looks workable on these terms.

15:00 - Doncaster - Waardah

Next up is the Group Two Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes, run over an extended mile and six. Waardah has untapped potential for the Owen Burrows yard, having stayed on very strongly when last seen finishing second behind Goodie Two Shoes in the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes.

She was the winner of the same race on her first start over a mile and six last year, holding off the re-opposing Danielle to win by just under a length.

As a daughter of Postponed, she looks set to thrive over this distance, and a galloping track like Doncaster should suit her running style.

15:35 - Doncaster - Musical Times

The ITV coverage on Thursday concludes with the Group Two May Hill Stakes, run over a straight mile.

Charlie Appleby won this race with the talented Desert Flower in 2024, and he holds strong claims to repeat that success with Musical Times this week. The two-year-old boasts a perfect record under rules, taking her form to the next level when beating Gracious Gift by nearly two lengths at York at the start of July.

Appleby’s yard excels with two-year-old fillies stepping into group level, striking at 40%. This step up to a mile should suit the daughter of Lope De Vega.
