Two teams at opposite ends of the table in League Two come to blows in a massive game in the automatic promotion and relegation spots with Derby County sitting second with Port Vale down in 22nd ahead of the Pride Park showdown.
A topsy-turvy run of form from Derby sees the Rams head into this game after a 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic at Pride Park. Eiran Cashin scored to give his side the lead, but the league's top scorer, Alfie May, equalised before Karoy Anderson won it for Charlton.
It does keep Derby up into second in the table, but the club have also faced further worries in their pursuit of a return to the Championship with a 2-1 loss away to Barnsley that now brings the Tykes to within three of Derby. The Rams' last win was at home to Stevenage, as they also managed to get all three points off Exeter City in a comfortable 3-0 away win.
Shrewsbury Town did get a point off them in a 1-1 draw, but a 1-0 win at The Valley against Charlton earlier in February means they have beaten them and lost to them this season.
Derby are behind Portsmouth at the top of the table in League One, but with Pompey having won their past four games in the league, it seems as if they are becoming uncatchable with a seven-point gap.
Nevertheless, the Rams must keep and eye on Barnsley in fourth with a three-point gap on them but the Tykes have two extra games to play. What's more, Bolton Wanderers in third also have the same amount of points (66), but Derby are ahead of them on goals difference having let in five fewer but having both scored 60 goals each.
As for Port Vale, they sit in the relegation zone after a recent loss to fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town saw those two switch places in the bottom three. What's more, Vale have now lost 17 times after a recent loss to Lincoln City last weekend, while a draw with Fleetwood Town in a relegation fight battle sees them with eight draws on the board.
Port Vale's last win came all the way back in December to tally up a winless 2024 that has seen them also lose to relegation-sitting Fleetwood and fellow strugglers Cheltenham and Reading. Portsmouth have also got all three points off them alongside another 1-0 loss at to Leyton Orient. Stunningly, Port Vale have also lost away to Carlisle United at Brunton Park in 2024, meaning they have lost to all the teams in the bottom five this year alone.
