Bolton Wanderers are clinging onto second place in League One with a trip to Exeter City up next as the Greater Manchester side head to St James Park with a gap on Derby County in third by just one point.
Bolton have had an excellent season and it has no doubt been their best campaign since dropping into League One from the Championship. However, after failing to cash in on their games in hand, the club are now six points behind Portsmouth in first place when they could have been three clear if they had won their extra games.
Bolton had a chance to extend their lead over those around them during the week too in what was their final game in hand. It was also against fourth-placed Barnsley, but after going 2-0 down, the club managed to earn a point with a goal from Victor Adeboyejo and a late finish from Randell Williams in the 98th minute.
Bolton have now won 21 games, lost only eight times and scored the third most goals in the division with 64 netted being four more goals than Portsmouth in first.
As for Exeter, it's been a fairly standard season for them in what is their return to League One. The club come into this game down in 16th and although not a positive reading, they are also sitting with a healthy gap of eight points on the bottom three. On the other hand, they are nine points behind the top half of the table.
