Exeter City are looking to continue their good form as they face Bristol Rovers in League One this weekend.
Exeter City currently sit 14th in League One with nine wins, six draws and fourteen losses from twenty-nine games this season.
It’s been a pretty mediocre campaign on the whole for Exeter but a good run of recent form has instilled a good mood around the club.
They’re entering this game in good form having lost just one of their last five games (W3, D1 L1) the most recent of which was a 2-1 win away at Barnsley thanks to goals from Jack Aitchison and Reece Cole.
The win over Barnsley was huge for Exeter given it came away at a promotion contender and it was well deserved for a side that are currently on the ascendency.
Their home form has been pretty decent of late too, as Gary Caldwell’s men come into this game unbeaten in their last four games on home soil.
It’s unfortunate for clubs like Exeter in that the league has been so strong this season it’s going to make it almost impossible for a currently mid-table club to make a late run at the playoffs because there’s too much ground to make up on the current pack.
Exeter can, though, lay the foundations for a better campaign next time around if they can maintain these showings through until May.
Bristol Rovers currently sit 11th in League One with ten wins, seven draws and eleven losses from twenty-eight games this season.
The Pirates have improved following a poor start to the season, which coincided with Joey Barton’s sacking, but are likely too far adrift to seriously compete for a spot in the playoff places.
They’re entering this game out of form having lost four of their last five games in the league, but given their most recent game saw one of their best wins of the season they’ll hope they’ve turned a corner.
Last weekend saw them beat promotion contenders Oxford United 3-1 thanks to goals from Chris Martin, Luke Thomas and Harvey Vale.
The win was a fine victory and is one they’ll hope to now build on, but considering they’ve won just one of their last five games on the road, while losing four of them, this one feels a potentially tricky fixture.
They’ve lost both of their last two head-to-head meetings with Exeter so it’s going to take a big performance to get something from this one.
For our Exeter vs. Bristol Rovers prediction, we’re going for a 2-1 win for the home side.
