A busy afternoon of ITV Racing action kicks off at Kelso with the Listed Mares’ Hurdle over three miles.
Hollygrove Cha Cha should prove hard to beat on these terms for an in-form Jamie Snowden yard. The six-year-old has won four from six over hurdles and was visually very impressive when beating Jubilee Alpha by four lengths at Warwick last time.
This step up in trip should play to her strengths, and she has plenty in hand on ratings with this field.
Newbury’s opening race on Saturday is an interesting Novices’ Hurdle over an extended two miles.
Koktail Bleu sets the standard for the Chris Gordon team. The six-year-old has won once from five starts over hurdles, but he has finished outside of the first three on just one occasion.
The strength of his second in Grade Two company last time sets the standard.
Rock Dj looks fairly treated and could run a big race at an each-way price for Mark Walford on Saturday.
The six-year-old ran to form last time when fourth of eleven over an extended two miles and four at Ayr.
Is yet to win under rules, but is progressive based on the figures, and this weekend’s race could have been the long-term target.
Next up is a Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and three from Newbury. Grand Vendetta represents the in-form Paul Nicholls yard, with Harry Cobden jocked up to take the ride.
The six-year-old got off the mark over hurdles on his second attempt last time, beating Wondering Ego by just under two lengths at Taunton.
That form has been franked since, and he looks like a major contender following that experience.
Nicky Henderson saddles Khrisma in the Mares’ Novices’ Handicap over two miles.
The mare won last time with a fair bit still in hand, easily putting just under two lengths between herself and Charisma Cat.
She is already a two-time winner over hurdles, and looks to be dangerous now dropped into a handicap for the first time for hugely respected connections.
A competitive handicap chase over two miles and four is next up from Newbury. Hercule De Seuil looks to be well-handicapped on his second start for Neil Mulholland.
The nine-year-old was unsuited to running over a shorter trip on his debut for the new yard, but he has lots of back class, including a two-length win over Blood Destiny in a Grade Three, and a strong third behind Found A Fifty in Grade Two company during his time with Willie Mullins.
Diamond Dealer was only narrowly touched off when tackling three miles at Wetherby last time, beaten a short head by I Wish You when heading for home too early.
Progressing nicely over fences, winning twice from four starts; both wins coming over two miles and seven.
Handles Kelso, and is a solid chance for a yard that typically gets winners on a Saturday.
The Grade Two Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle headlines the card at Newbury on Saturday. At a price, Pismo Beach could be extremely interesting now back on a sounder surface.
The six-year-old produced a career best effort when winning over two miles and four at Hexham in October, but has since been beaten in some hot races, including when fourth at Cheltenham and third at Warwick.
She has previously run well at Newbury, finishing a close third behind Siog Geal in this race last March. Will run her race, and has each-way prospects.
ITV also covers a race from Bangor on Saturday, with a handicap hurdle covering an extended two miles and three.
The Four Sixes is an interesting contender for the Olly Murphy stable. The eight-year-old has won four from 15 starts over hurdles and looks to be back on a workable mark following a couple of disappointing efforts.
He started the season with some strong runs, winning over two miles and three by nine lengths, before running credibly behind Kabral Du Mathan for a long way at Haydock.
The Goffs Hundred Grand Bumper rounds off the card on Saturday, and at a massive price, Harzandacassandra could run a big race.
The six-year-old will get nearly a stone from the market leader, and she ran better than the bare result suggested when seventh on rules debut.
She had no luck in running when making her bid and was eventually eased down in the final stages. A clear run will undeniably give her a better chance, and little surprise if she is fighting for a place.
