20th takes on 16th down in League One this weekend with Exeter City set to welcome Cambridge United to St James Park with neither side able to say anything good about their season so far in 2023/24.
Exeter are heading into this game down in 20th and with just a gap of three points on the bottom three. This sees the club with 14 losses on the board, meaning only Shrewsbury Town have a worse record for those sitting outside of the bottom three than the Grecians.
The South West side also come into this one with just 18 goals scored, meaning once again, only Salop have netted fewer across the 26 games so far this season.
Exeter have still managed to get a win in 2024 so far, however, unlike a lot of clubs in the Football League. This victory saw the club get a jump on the relegation zone with a win against Carlisle United that saw Reece Cole and Sonny Cox get a goal each in the second half of the game.
Last time out, however, they managed to lose 2-0 on the road to Blackpool and also suffered a loss to fellow strugglers Reading earlier in the month where Zak Jules and Dion Rankine scored a goal each in either half of a 3-2 loss.
Exeter now sit behind Cambridge by four points in the league table and it does mean there is no chance the club can leap ahead of the U's in this game, although they could close the gap significantly on many sides above them.
As for Cambridge, things have not been much better for them this season but they do head into this game having ended their three-game losing run with a 2-1 victory over Fleetwood Town. Lyle Taylor scored in the second half day alongside a late winner from Sullay Kaikai.
The U's did suffer a loss to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup third round before that, however, and also lose at home to Leyton Orient 2-0 and Oxford United 2-1 on the road.
This means the only other win within the past four weeks for Cambridge was over Exeter a few days before Christmas over at the Abbey Stadium. Gassan Ahadme scored a penalty in the first half that day, as Elias Kachunga also bagged himself a goal in the second 45.
