Portsmouth are looking to fend off competition from those below them as they face Exeter City in League One this weekend.
Exeter City currently sit 20th in League One with six wins, four draws and twelve losses from twenty-two games this season.
Exeter have had a tough time of things this season and are coming into this game looking to pull further away from a relegation zone that they sit only three points clear of.
Their form has been poor of late with Gary Caldwell’s side having won only one of their last six games, drawing two and losing three of the other five.
That win did, however, come in their most recent game where they beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a goal from Sonny Cox midway through the first half.
The win was sorely, sorely needed for Exeter and means they’re entering this game with a little bit of pressure lifted off them given it’s a game against the side top of the league.
That win aside, their home form hasn’t been great as they came into that game having failed to win any of their last nine games on home soil so that doesn’t fill you with much confidence ahead of this one.
Either way, they’re in better shape now than they were a week ago and while unlikely it’s not impossible they take a point from this game.
Portsmouth currently sit top of League One with fourteen wins, seven draws and two losses from twenty-three games this season.
Pompey have been galloping through the League One season and have no doubt exceeded expectations as they lead in the way in the standings, something few expected following an underwhelming campaign last time out.
They are, though, entering this game amidst a minor dip in form having taken only one point from their last two matches.
Their most recent game saw them fall to a 2-1 loss away at Bristol Rovers, a defeat that was made even more painful by the fact that Rovers’ winner came in the 94th minute.
Portsmouth need to now dust themselves off after such immense disappointment and they can at least be buoyed by the fact they’ve won four of their last five games away from home.
Exeter may be coming off the back of a win but this is not a game Portsmouth should lose, and despite the fact Exeter are coming off a win we’re backing the away side to get back to winning ways here.
For our Exeter vs. Portsmouth prediction, we’re going for a 2-0 win for the away side.
