Fleetwood will be aiming to edge close to safety with a win as they are set to host Barnsley at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a game which is set to kick off at 15:00.
After a disappointing start to their campaign, Fleetwood currently find themselves in 23rd position in the League One table, having gained 26 points from their 32 league games so far this season. The Fishermen are currently six points away from safety.
Charlie Adam’s side come into this game on the back of an upturn in form which has seen his side record just one loss in their last five outings. This run has included two precious victories which have come against Port Vale and Bristol Rovers.
Last time out, Fleetwood rescued an unlikely point against Reading thanks to a 95th minute winner. Reading looked to have secured victory thanks to a 74th minute goal from Lewis Wing. However, Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu sent Highbury into raptures when he scored a 95th minute equaliser.
Barnsley are currently sitting in 4th place in the league table and look to be embroiled in a promotion battle once again. The Tykes have gained 57 points from their 31 league outings and are currently six points behind Derby County who are in 2nd place.
The Tykes come into this game on the back of an inconsistent run of form which has seen them win 2, draw 2 and lose 1 of their last 5 outings. This run has included draws against Shrewsbury and Bolton and victories over Oxford and Leyton Orient.
The fixture of Fleetwood vs Barnsley is relatively new, with the first meeting of the two sides coming in 2014. In total, the two sides have met on 11 occasions, with Barnsley having the better record, having won 6 games, whilst Fleetwood have won just 3.
Barnsley are unbeaten against Fleetwood in their last eight meetings, a run which stretches back to January 2016. Out of these eight games, Barnsley have won eight and drawn just two.
When these sides met in the reverse fixture in the league, Fleetwood gained an unlikely point. Corey O'Keefe salvaged a late point for Barnsley after they came from behind twice to draw 2-2 against Fleetwood. Junior Quitirna scored either side of Devante Cole's first leveller before O'Keefe's last-gasp effort to earn a share of the spoils.
Unsurprisingly, given these sides respective league positions, it is Barnsley who come into this game as away favourites and are currently priced @ 1/1, whilst a rare home win for Fleetwood is priced @ 12/5 and a draw is @ 5/2.
We are backing Barnsley to win and BTTS @ 11/4 because of the disparity in quality between the two sides and Barnsley’s impressive record against the Fishermen. However we believe that it is likely for Fleetwood to score as they have scored in all five of their last league outings.
