Fleetwood vs Cambridge Prediction, Tips & Stats

Fleetwood Town and Cambridge United will meet in gameweek two of the League One season after a contrasting set of results so far in the 2023/24 campaign that has seen both sides lose in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Fleetwood suffered a loss on the road to Port Vale in their last outing during the week, although they did take an early lead thanks to a goal after five minutes from Cian Hayes. Ryan Graydon also scored for the club that day, as Fleetwood saw 62% of the ball and had five shots on target that day too.

Scott Brown's men drew with Carlisle United on the opening game of the season after Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu netted in the first half to equalise in a 1-1 clash. Despite being at home, poor results so far sees Fleetwood priced at 5/4 to get all three points in this game.

As for Cambridge, they went on to beat Oxford United on matchday one after a 2-0 victory that saw Jack Lankester score once more just as Gassan Ahadme carried on his excellent form from last season with a goal in the first half.

Fejri Okenabirhie scored twice in the game against Sutton United on Tuesday, but after a late equaliser from the League Two side, they would go on to win the match on penalties.

            Fleetwood team news

Fleetwood will be without Graydon in this game it seems, as he picked up an injury in the draw away to Carlisle, as Patterson also faces a late fitness test after he came off in that game too. Vela, Robertson, Mayor and Johnston are all likely to remain in the squad, however, with Earl, Nsiala and Sarpond-Wiredu in defence - the latter scored in the draw with Carlisle. Jack Marriot is likely to return to the starting XI and Cian Hayes should do the same with Shaun Rooney. Jayden Stockley will also return from injury in this game.

            Cambridge team news

Cambridge got off to a flyer against Oxford United, but it did come in with an injury to Thomas in midfield - he will face a fitness test before this game. Digby should remain alongside him, but Elias Kachunga may now come in alongside Jordan Cousins. Andrew, Bennett, Bennett and Morrison are likely to play in defence here once more. We also expect to see Gassan Ahadme, Brophy, Lankester and Janneh.
