Northampton vs. Cambridge Prediction, Tips & Stats

Two struggling sides meet in League One this weekend as Northampton Town face Cambridge United.

Northampton Town currently sit 19th in League One with five wins, two draws and nine losses from sixteen games so far this season.

The Cobblers are struggling to adjust to life in League One after an excellent promotion campaign last time out as they currently languish just one point above the relegation zone.

They're entering this game fairly out of form having won just one of their last six games, losing four of them.

Their most recent encounter did, however, see them claim a much-needed win at home to Burton Albion, with goals from Marc Leonard and Sam Hoskins sealing a big three points for Jon Brady's side.

Northampton can take confidence from the fact their form at home has been very resolute in recent games with the Cobblers having taken seven points from their last two matches on home soil.

Northampton very much need to build on the win against Burton as they're still dangerously close to the drop zone. A win here will see them really start to build some momentum and they should fancy themselves to get it given who they're facing here.

Cambridge United currently sit 15th in League One with five wins, five draws and seven losses from seventeen games this season.

The Us have been, as expected, fairly dull in League One this season as they find themselves attempting to swim against the current dragging them towards the relegation zone.

Their form in all competitions has been very good of late with Cambridge having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five but when refined solely to league form the picture is much less rosy as they come into this game having won just one of their last five, with their most recent game a 5-0 hammering away at Peterborough United.

That defeat was an extremely sobering encounter and it was the latest in a string of winless away trips as they enter this game winless in their last eight games on the road, losing six of those.

They can, at least, lean into the fact they've won both of the last two head-to-head meetings with Northampton by a combined scoreline of 5-1, so they can feel as though they match up well with their opponents here.

Both sides are in serious need of three points in this one but the balance might just tip in favour of the home side.

For our Northampton vs. Cambridge prediction, we're going for a 1-0 win for the home side.

        Northampton Team News

Danny Hylton and Tyler Magloire could once again miss out for the Cobblers after being absent for a run of games now but Jon Guthrie will be fit enough to be named in the match-day squad for a league game for the first time in a number of weeks.

It's highly likely that Jon Brady shows faith in the side that beat Burton in their last league game and opts for the same starting lineup.

        Cambridge Team News

Jordan Cousins missed the hammering at Peterborough but could be fit enough to feature here while Harrison Dunk is a major doubt.

Mark Bonner will likely ring the changes after such a comprehensive loss with Gassan Ahadme and John-Kymani Gordon both pushing for spots in the starting lineup.
