Northampton Town and Stevenage will clash on the opening weekend of League One just two months on from the two securing promotion out of the fourth tier in what was an extremely tight race for promotion throughout the season.
In the end, only two points separated these two in the automatic promotion with Stevenage finished in second and the home side in this one ending up in third.
Throughout much of the season, the two switched positions in the table, but in the end, the 1-1 draw between these two in the final eight games of the season ended up being significant for Stevenage finishing second. The other clash between these two in League Two last season saw Stevenage fall to a 3-2 defeat earlier on in the campaign.
Stevenage would finish their season with one more win (24) across the 46 games and with nine losses on the board too, although they also managed to have the second-best defensive record in the league with just 39 goals let in. The second-placed side did score one less goal (61) than Northampton, however, with both sides losing the same amount of games. In fact, the only difference was Northampton's extra draw.
Northampton had a topsy-turvy preseason with them losing to Leicester City and Birmingham City by 1-0 scorelines, although they would go on to defeat Brackley Town and MK Dons alongside a 2-2 draw with Kidderminster Harriers.
Stevenage suffered just one loss during their preseason friendlies, as Stamford ran out 2-1 winners against them. The club would also defeat St Neots Town, Hitchin Town, Ipswich Town and Tottenham Hotspur XI.
We give the home side the edge in this one.
