Oxford United vs Charlton Prediction, Tips & Stats

Oxford United are set to host Charlton Athletic at the Kassam Stadium this weekend with the two clubs experiencing completely contrasting starts to life in the 2023/24 season with 14 places keeping them apart in the table after four games.

Oxford are up into fourth before this game with the club managing to register a very impressive win over Barnsley at Oakwell last time out. Tyler Goodrham scored off the bench that day, as Cameron Brannagan also bagged a penalty to get the ball rolling.

This was the third win in a row for Liam Manning's side after a stunning 5-1 loss away to Bristol City in the EFL Cup first round. Manning's side have also beaten Carlisle Untied and Derby County in the first handful of games, as Mark Harris netted the winner against Carlisle before bagging a brace in the 2-1 win over the Rams - he has been arguably the best forward in League One this season so far.

Charlton, however, have lost four in a row after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Newport County in the EFL Cup first round before a loss on the road to Peterborough United four days later. Bristol Rovers and Port Vale would go on to beat Charlton at The Valley soon after where a total of five goals would be conceded by the Addicks.

The club's only win so far has been in a narrow 1-0 home win over Leyton Orient, as George Dobson scored early on in the second half.

          Charlton team news

Charlton will field Alfie May and Daniel Kanu once more in the attacking setup with both strikers scoring last time out in a win over Port Vale. Anderson is likely to play behind them in attacking midfield, but he was booked in the last outing. Terell Thomas and Diallang Jaiyesimi are also set to start this game after starting on the bench in the last match. Jack Payne is another name expected to get game time in this one. Lucas Ness and Charlie Kirk have both also returned from injuries and should feature in this match.

          Oxford team news

Oxford head into this game with no fresh injuries to worry about and will likely field Tyler Goodrham from the start once more with Harris potentially dropping out as a result. Mills, Billy Boding and Marcus Browne should all start in the attacking midfield ranks too, as Cameron Brannagan should start once more after his goal against Barnsley. McGuane is also likely to play alongside him as Ruben Rodrigues and Gatlin O'Donkor potentially get starting roles too. Josh McEachran missed the 90 minutes against Barnsley and should end up getting more minutes and may be start in this game. Brown, Negru, Moore and Long are all likely to play in the defence once again here
