Peterborough United will be looking at fourth and third this weekend with the hosting of Exeter City as the Posh continue to fight for a spot for a place in the Championship next season with them now fifth in League One.
A winning goal in the 1-0 win from Ephron Mason-Clark meant a run of four losses on the bounce for Peterborough as they managed to stay in fifth with Stevenage breathing right down their neck. The recent losing run throughout February did mean the club lost a gap of six points on the sixth-placed Stevenage, but, Bolton Wanderers in third are only seven points clear with the Posh having a game in hand too.
Barnsley are also only four ahead of them, although the two have played out 33 League One games. Peterborough also continue to be the highest-scoring side in the third tier this season with 61 netted being three more than Portsmouth in first and one more than Derby, Bolton and Barnsley just above them. Much of this comes from the excellent form of stars like Jonson Clarke-Harris, Mason-Clark and Malik Mothersille.
Exeter will, however, be completely aware of the rough run of form Peterborough put together in February that saw them los to Blackpool, Wigan Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers in the league, as they only just got their first two wins in February by defeating Blackpool in the Football League Trophy semi final and after beating Cambridge last weekend.
Better yet for the away side, they managed to defeat Peterborough at St James Park early last month as an own goal from Jadel Katongo sealed all three points for them. Reece Cole got another goal from midfield that day for Exeter, as Harrison Burrows netted from the spot.
Nevertheless, despite a great win that day, Gary Caldwell's men have only defeated Wigan on the road since, losing at home to Derby three weeks ago before a defeat away to Lincoln and a draw at St James Park to Fleetwood Town last weekend. Caldwell's side remain in 15th, and although relegation seems unlikely, so does a spot in the top half of the table unless a consistent run of form hits.
