Peterborough vs. Shrewsbury Prediction, Tips & Stats

Peterborough United continue their automatic promotion charge as they face Shrewsbury Town this weekend.

Peterborough United currently sit 2nd in League One with fifteen wins, seven draws and four losses from twenty-six games this season.

The Posh are having a fantastic campaign and look very well-placed to continue their push for a top-two finish.

They’ve had an excellent last couple of months in terms of both results and performances they’re coming into this game right in form, unbeaten in their last ten games in the league having won three of their last five.

Their most recent game saw them claim an impressive 2-1 win away at Charlton Athletic thanks to a brace from Ephron Mason-Clark, a win that was not only their second on the bounce but also their second straight away win.

Their home form is not to be questioned either, with the Posh having gone unbeaten in their last ten league games on home soil in a run that’s seen them fly up the league table.

Peterborough have won all of their last three head-to-head meetings with Shrewsbury Town and given the current state of both sides it’s hard to see this one going any differently.

They’re one of the form teams in League One and have their sights set firmly on the Championship; expect them to come out on top here.

Shrewsbury Town currently sit 17th in League One with nine wins, three draws and fifteen losses from twenty-seven games this season.

The Shrews are having a tough season and find themselves sliding dangerously closer to the relegation zone as the weeks pass by.

They’re entering this game in poor form having lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, the most recent of which was a 0-1 loss at home to Stevenage.

The loss to Stevenage was excusable given the standard of opponent they’re playing, but given the defeat followed a 0-1 loss to rivals Wrexham, who play in the league below, it means there’s an intense amount of scrutiny on Matthew Taylor’s side at the minute.

They’ve won only one of their last eleven games away from home in the league so it’s not looking likely that their fortunes will turn around here. They need to start picking up wins and any result here would be a major positive, but it wouldn’t be wise to back anything but a home win.

For our Peterborough vs. Shrewsbury prediction, we’re going for a 3-0 win for the home side.

          Peterborough Team News

Jonson Clark-Harris missed the win over Charlton and is therefore a doubt for this one.

Goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic continues to miss out through injury so expect Jed Steer to remain between the sticks in what is expected to be the same starting XI that took to the field at The Valley last time out.

          Shrewsbury Team News

Ryan Finnigan is nearing a return from injury after spending a significant amount of time on the sidelines with an ankle injury sustained in training, but this game likely comes too soon for the Southampton loanee. Kieran Phillips also remains a long-term absentee.

Expect a change or two following defeat to Stevenage last time out, with Tom Bayliss, Roland Idowu and Max Mata all hoping to come into the starting lineup.
